Quality Engineer II
About this role
Position Purpose:
Handles customer concerns through effective problem-solving, helps in identifying root causes, tracks corrective actions, supports APQP launch initiatives. Heads and supports effective implementation of IATF16949 Quality Management System. Drives continual improvement activities on the manufacturing floor to ensure processes delivers product that meet customer expectations.
Essential Functions:
- Drive customer concerns to closure through effective problem-solving.
- Drive supplier quality improvement.
- Help suppliers identify root causes and corrective action.
- Track corrective actions for timely closure.
- Lead structured problem-solving approach for internal and external problems.
- Develop and implement systems to support IATF16949 compliance activities.
- Track scrap, rework, internal and external PPM, and lead teams for improvement.
- Lead the Internal Auditing of the Quality System.
- Support APQP launch initiatives through effective management of PPAP process, development of control plans and PFMEAS, participation in APQP meetings.
- Mentor, coaches, and teaches Quality Engineers, Technicians, and Line Inspectors.
- Identifies and completes capital purchases based on business needs
- Develop and leads training for the site with regards to lean practices.
Education and Training
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline required. Mechanical/Industrial Engineering
Minimum Qualifications
5+ Years’ Experience in:
- Tier One automotive sector – Required.
- Using APQP tools (FMEA, Control Plans, QFD, DOE) – Required.
- 8D problem solving process – Required.
- Using and applying Statistical tools – Required.
- ISO9001 / IATF16949 methodology – Required.
- Understanding of industry standards with regards to destructive and non-destructive testing.
- Understanding of GD&T
- Supplier development – Preferred.
- Six Sigma Green Belt – Preferred.
Physical Demands
- Constant 6+ hours of workday sitting, cervical spine motion, simple grasp, fine manipulation.
- Minimal 1-3 hours of workday standing, walking, forward bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching.
- Occasional 1 hour of workday balancing (for standing, walking etc.), lower extremities (for sitting, standing, walking, squatting).
Environmental Conditions
- This job operates in a manufacturing environment. The employee is occasionally exposed to industrial noise, dust, heat, fumes.
