About this role

Park Nicollet is looking to hire a Clinical Documentation Improvement Specialist to join our team!  Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day. 

Facilitates improvement in the overall quality, completeness, and accuracy of medical record documentation. Obtains appropriate clinical documentation through extensive interaction with physicians, nursing and other patient care staff and facility coding staff to ensure that clinical documentation reflects the level of service rendered to patients is complete and accurate. Educates all members of patient care team on documentation guidelines on an on-going basis. Maintains positive and open communications with physicians, interdisciplinary care team members, and coding staff. Meets and/or exceeds productivity and quality expectations as outlined by department policy, including but not limited to number of average daily reviews, missed query opportunities, clinician response rate, and clinician agree rate. 

Schedule: 

  • Flexible Daytime hours with the possibility of working weekends if desired, after orientation. 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
    • Either a bachelor’s degree in nursing OR an associate degree in nursing along with 2 years CDI experience) or bachelor’s degree in allied health field
    • 5 years acute care hospital experience
  • Licensure/ Registration/ Certification:
    • Active RN Licensure
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Proven proficiency in the operation of the following: Personal Computer, Telephone, Fax Machine, Photocopier, Printer, and electronic medical record.
    • Knowledge of ICD 10 and DRG Guidelines

 

 Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Education, Experience or Equivalent Combination:
    • Clinical documentation integrity, clinical quality improvement, utilization review, discharge planning, or case management experience preferred.
    • Coding experience preferred.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
    • Ability to utilize critical thinking skills and ability to integrate knowledge.

    • Excellent communication and decision-making abilities.
    • Ability to assess, evaluate and teach all members of the care team.
    • Practices and models professional behavior
    • Possesses ability to work collaboratively and establish rapport with physicians, managers, and staff of multiple disciplines to assure positive outcomes.
    • Ability to establish personal and professional credibility in the organization.
    • Demonstrates strength in managing complex situations, teaching, functioning as a positive change agent, conflict management, systems thinking and situation analysis.
    • Mature verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
