About this role

Park Nicollet is looking to hire a Registered Sonographer to join our Cardiology team! Come join us as a Partner for Good and help us make an impact on the care and experience that our patients and their families receive every day. 

To perform echocardiographic procedures on adult patients in the Cardiology Noninvasive Laboratory including M-Mode echocardiography, Two-Dimensional echocardiography, contrast echocardiography, pulsed, continuous wave, and color flow doppler echocardiography, stress echocardiography, dobutamine echocardiography, transesophageal echocardiography and to perform related duties as assigned.  This position supports and participates in achieving departmental goals.

Work Schedule:

  • Monday-Friday 
  • days shift 
  • 7:30-4:00 pm
  •  rotating weekends, on-call

Required Qualifications:

  • Graduation from a allied health diagnostic program or received training on the job specific to echocardiography.
  • Registration as a RDCS or RCS within 1 year of hire or if trained on the job registration required at hire. 
  • BLS required.
  • Knowledge of electrocardiography and arrhythmias and conduction disturbances.
  • Knowledge of sterile technique.
  • Knowledge of mathematical principals including algebra.
  • Knowledge of how to use defibrillator and crash cart.
  • Ability to effectively perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
  • Ability to work effectively with critically ill/injured adult patients.
  • Ability to gain optimal cooperation from adult patients.
  • Ability to recognize and properly deal with medical emergencies.
  • Ability to recognize and report equipment problems and malfunctions.
  • Ability to carry out basic clerical activities.
  • Knowledge of all procedures performed in the Cardiology Noninvasive Laboratory.
  • Knowledge and ability to correctly operate computerized echocardiographic equipment.
  • Knowledge of various echocardiogram techniques including:
    • Instrumentation of cardiac imaging system.
    • Recognition of technical artifact.
    • Recognition of set up error.
    • Selecting proper transducer.
    • Use of contrast agents and /or provocative maneuvers.
  • Knowledge of physiology, anatomy, and hemodynamics of
    • valve disease.
  • Knowledge of cardiovascular anatomy, physiology, and hemodynamics.
  • Knowledge of the echocardiographic manifestations, findings associated abnormalities of the following:  valve disease, pericardial disease, cardiomyopathies, ischemic heart disease, tumors, and congenital heart disease.
  • Ability to perform deductive echocardiography and segmental approach to cardiac anatomy.
  • Ability to perform qualitative evaluation of the cardiac valves, chambers, and wall segments using basic and advanced techniques and imaging planes.
  • Ability to recognize and assess echocardiographic abnormalities and lesions.
  • Ability to acquire, analyze, calculate, and measure essential information necessary for a diagnostic interpretation.
  • Ability to identify the various types of prosthetic valves and assess function and identify malfunction.
  • Ability to independently perform high quality stress echocardiograms, dobutamine echocardiograms using advanced techniques and imaging planes.
  • Assist with transesophageal echocardiograms at bedside and in the operating room.
  • Ability to recognize an acute process and alert physician immediately.
    • Continues to stay abreast with changes and advancements in the field of cardiac sonography and maintains a high level of expertise by attending continuing education courses required for a current registration status.
