About this role

Regions Hospital is seeking a Per Diem Neonatal Nurse Practitioner in our Birth Center. The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner functions as an associate of the supervising group of Neonatologists in coordinating the patient care needs of the high-risk newborns within Regions Hospital.  The NNP functions in an expanded nursing role, responsible for complete 24 hour/day and 7 days/week management of the NICU LEVEL II patients.  The practitioner has responsibility for assessment and management of patients including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions and daily implementation and evaluation of an appropriate plan of care. The NNP is also a participant in and contributor to continuing education and staff development within perinatal services as well as involvement in outreach programs provided to outlying hospitals.

We have received the highest ranking from the Institute for HealthCare Improvement (IHI) for patient safety. We are proud to be a Baby Friendly Hospital and to support the largest midwife practice in the Twin Cities and note that over half of our deliveries are done by midwives. We work as an interdisciplinary team with physicians, midwives, residents, and students. Our Professional Nursing Practice Model offers patient and family-centered care that maintains an unwavering focus on what matters most: caring and healing at the patient’s bedside. As a nursing professional you will be empowered to manage your clinical practice and working environment through our Shared Governance Model, which focuses on evidence-based nursing practice. Our award-winning programs give our patients and their families a place of comfort and healing. We are proud of the care we give each and every patient.

Our state-of-the-art Birth Center was built in 2020.  Featuring 160,000 square feet – 13 Labor and Delivery rooms, 2 operating rooms, 24 Postpartum rooms, and 7 NICU rooms.  Our Level 2 NICU features 7 private rooms including 1 twin room for a total of 8beds, each with an adjoining family space and bathroom to keep families connected. Regions Hospital is one of the few hospitals in the country to feature the Enhanced Couplet Care model.  5 of our Postpartum rooms are outfitted with a full NICU headwall, allowing a subset of our NICU babies to stay in the Postpartum room with their families and avoid separation.  This evidence-based model of care provides many benefits including improved weight gain, more effective feedings, and fewer hospital readmissions.

The Birth Center at Regions has approximately 2800 births annually with 15-20% of babies requiring some amount of NICU-level care.  We are dedicated to diversity and inclusion, with 60% of our patient population being people of color, and 25% requiring interpreters for their care.
