In the role of Civil/Environmental Engineer, we'll count on you to:

  • Work on a wide variety of MSW, CCR, planning, or facilities related projects including but not limited to landfills, impoundments, compost facilities, solid waste management plans, feasibility studies, transfer stations, material recovery facilities, household hazardous waste facilities, and organics facilities.
  • Work with a team of staff engineers in preparation of design deliverables including strategic planning, feasibility studies, waste plans, engineering design reports, construction drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates and construction schedules with support from HDR’s national practice leads.
  • Support planning projects associated with recycling programs, organics, zero waste, circular economy, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Participate in meetings with clients and regulatory agencies to resolve technical issues and negotiate compliance/permitting actions.
  • Will also serve as a consultant and supervisor of waste construction management projects as needed.
  • Work independently on technical tasks involving data analysis, interpreting results, and preparing technical reports, plans and specifications.
  • Assist Senior Engineers in environmental remediation projects that include remediation design and implementation
  • Perform routine engineering assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures
  • Complete projects that have clear, specified objectives and limited variables
  • Perform administrative duties associated with project management for environmental projects
  • Work independently on small projects, or assist more-senior engineers on larger projects
  • Complete duties requiring field work and travel as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed   

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5 years’ experience, waste management/design, civil site engineering, or related experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated understanding of client relationship management and evidence of experience interacting directly with clients higher preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft 365 (Excel, Word, Teams, OneNote, etc.).
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D is a plus.
  • Local candidates preferred


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or closely related Engineering field
  • Previous experience designing and creating plans and specifications for environmental engineering projects, such as remediation design and implementation
  • Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered. Example: Professional Engineer (PE or P.Eng) license.
  • Self-motivated, able to work independently and with a project team to completion of a task
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
