Partnership Accounting - Specialist

 

Onsite - Norfolk, VA Corporate Office

Job Summary: We are seeking a driven individual who can support Partnership Accounting within the Accounting & Finance Department at HGI corporate office. HGI has a multi-tiered partnership structure with new fund and investor level entities being created with each new real estate acquisition. The Partnership Accounting team maintains the books and records for the upper-tier fund structure.  


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions that can be performed safely may be required as deemed necessary by Harbor Group Management.

  • Prepare bank reconciliations for partnership level books
  • Set-up new partnership entities and distribution schedules in the accounting system.
  • Track and post investor commitments and contributions.
  • Assist the manager of Partnership Accounting with reconciling partnership equity and investment balances.
  • Assist with research related to property acquisitions and dispositions.
  • Assist with running adhoc reports from various internal software as needed.
  • Update existing work papers for CPA firm deliverables.  
  • Assist with special projects as needed.
  • Perform other duties as required.

  • High school diploma or equivalent, required.  Associate’s degree in accounting (or equivalent) strongly preferred.
  • 1-2 years of relevant work experience in accounting, AP and/or real estate industry. 
  • Strong oral and written communication, good listening skills, and excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage well through ambiguity and complexity.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Ability to assimilate and summarize large quantities of data precisely and succinctly.
  • Ability to balance time during busy annual reporting/ tax season.
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Very strong Excel skills required (ex. v-lookups, pivots, etc.).
  • Ability to learn Yardi accounting system. Previous experience with Yardi a plus.
