Who We Are
Sea Mart Quality Foods is more than a supermarket; we are a Sitka landmark. Located on an island community with only 14 miles of road, we serve as the primary gateway for our neighbors' daily needs. As a 24-hour independently owned and operated store, we embrace the "Spirit of Alaska" through a deep commitment to our community and a "first-and-last" touchpoint hospitality model. Our history is rooted in resilience, navigating the complexities of island logistics where every product represents a journey by barge. We pride ourselves on being the stabilizing force that keeps Sitka stocked, secure, and welcomed.
You Will Be
- The Ambassador of Freshness: You are the visual heart of the store. You ensure that our fruits and vegetables represent the high-energy "Spirit of Alaska" quality our neighbors expect.
- The Quality Guardian: You have a meticulous eye for detail, ensuring that only the freshest product remains on display through constant culling and precise rotation.
- A Wayfinding Guide: You act as a local expert, helping guests navigate seasonal varieties and identifying the best ingredients for their families.
What You Will Do (Entry Level 1 - Core Responsibilities)
- Master Merchandising: Execute daily replenishment of floor displays and produce items, ensuring high-impact visual appeal and full shelves.
- Strict Rotation & FIFO: Perform rigorous "First-In-First-Out" rotation and cull products past their peak to guarantee "Gold Standard" quality.
- Maintain Department Pride: Ensure a clean, safe, and hydrated sales floor by sweeping, cleaning display bins, and managing the high-moisture misting zones.
- Practice Wayfinding: Provide legendary service by walking guests to products rather than just pointing, acting as a local guide for our seasonal Produce selections.
Advanced Responsibilities (Specialist Level 2 & Lead Level 3)
Internal promotions to these levels are based on operational need and labor budgeting. Candidates with prior comparable experience may be identified for these tracks.
- Specialist (Level 2): Oversees professional "wet-rack" maintenance (crisping/hydration), coordinates floral merchandising, and manages the verification of incoming perishable shipments against invoices.
- Lead (Level 3): Serves as the primary assistant to the Produce Shift Supervisor and Produce Manager. Coordinates daily floor team activities, assists with precision ordering, and oversees the physical setup of seasonal resets and promotional islands.
Qualifications
- Experience: None required; we are a "Teaching Store" and will train the right attitude.
- Age Requirement: 18+ Years Old (required for heavy machinery/baler operation).
- Certifications: Ability to obtain a valid Alaska Food Workers Card within 30 days of employment.
Physical Requirements & Environment
- Dynamic Mobility: Ability to stand for a 4-8 hour shift, lift up to 50 lbs (e.g., bags of potatoes/onions), and navigate walk-in coolers.
- Wet/Cold Exposure: Ability to remain productive in refrigerated environments (35°F to 45°F) and moisture-heavy misting zones.
- Sensory Awareness: Ability to visually distinguish ripeness/quality markers and hear equipment safety alarms.
Pay Transparency
