Who We Are
Sea Mart Quality Foods is more than a supermarket; we are a Sitka landmark. Located on an island community with only 14 miles of road, we serve as the primary gateway for our neighbors' daily needs. As a 24-hour independently owned and operated store, we embrace the "Spirit of Alaska" through a deep commitment to our community and a "first-and-last" touchpoint hospitality model. Our history is rooted in resilience, navigating the complexities of island logistics where every product represents a journey by barge. We pride ourselves on being the stabilizing force that keeps Sitka stocked, secure, and welcomed.
You Will Be
- The Freshness Guardian: You are the protector of the "Cold-Chain" in our highest-velocity department, ensuring Sitka never walks into empty milk crates or expired goods.
- The Rear-Load Architect: You master the art of the dairy walk-in, replenishing the high-volume service wall from the rear to ensure seamless availability for our neighbors.
- A Precision Technician: You understand that in Dairy, detail is everything. You catch the small things, from leaking gallons to critical expiration dates.
What You Will Do (Entry Level 1 - Core Responsibilities)
- Execute Cold-Chain Stocking: Efficiently replenish the dairy wall and reach-in cases to ensure continuous availability of milk, butter, and eggs.
- Strict FIFO Rotation: Prioritize absolute food safety by rotating all dairy products based on expiration dates-never "filling from the front."
- Quality Monitoring: Proactively identify and cull damaged or expired perishable products to maintain the "health" of the department.
- Cooler Organization: Maintain a high standard of cleanliness and organization within the dairy walk-in stocking zone and specialty cheese displays.
Advanced Responsibilities (Specialist Level 2 & Lead Level 3)
Internal promotions to these levels are based on operational need and labor budgeting. Candidates with prior comparable experience may be identified for these tracks.
- Specialist (Level 2): Takes "Section Ownership" of SKU management; manages price integrity and audits shelf tags to ensure compliance with promotional schedules.
- Lead (Level 3): Serves as a senior technical resource; oversees the technical organization of the "Three Pillars" (Dairy, Frozen, Dry) during peak hours and mentors junior staff on food safety ethics.
Qualifications
- Experience: None required; we are a "Teaching Store." We value energy, punctuality, and an eye for detail.
- Age Requirement: 18+ Years Old (Required for operation of hazardous warehouse equipment).
- Skills: Ability to work independently during graveyard shifts and maintain a consistent freight pace.
Physical Requirements & Environment
- Cold Exposure: Ability to work in refrigerated environments (35°F to 45°F) for extended durations.
- Heavy Lifting: Ability to lift and move objects up to 50 lbs (e.g., milk crates and bulk yogurt cases).
- Wet/Slippery Environments: Ability to maintain safety and balance in areas with high moisture or product condensation.
Pay Transparency
- Pay Range: $17.50 - $23.50 hourly. Starting rates vary by level, experience, and current operational needs.
- Overtime: This is an hourly position subject to Alaska's 8-hour daily overtime laws.
