About this role

This is a per diem RN position for Radiation Oncology at Corning Hospital.

Position Summary:

The Oncology nurse provides professional, comprehensive nursing care for patients and is responsible for delivery of coordinated, safe, compassionate, therapeutic, and evidence-based quality care.  Practicing in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act in the state of employment, the American Nurses Association (ANA) Code of Ethics, and the ANA scope and standards of practice.  

Experience:

A minimum of two years of practice as a registered nurse in an acute care setting is preferred but not required.   

Education:

Graduate of an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) accredited nursing program.  A Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing (BSN) is preferred but not required. 

Licenses:

  • Licensed Registered Nurse in the state of employment.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Specialty certification is recommended as soon as the RN is eligible including: Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Certificate and Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN). 
  • Specialty training as required by specific units or specialty includes Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).

Essential Functions:

  1. Employs Nursing Professional Practice by assessing, diagnosing, planning, implementing, and evaluating patients’ care.  
    1. Develops updates and coordinates patient plan of care to achieve patient goals.
    2. Optimizes patient outcomes and helps patient transition across the care continuum. 
  2. Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition as appropriate.
    1. Performs and maintains essential competencies as required by the department.  Such as administering chemotherapy, antibiotics, blood and iron infusions and any other therapeutic treatments. 
    2. Follows provider orders in relation to patient care and documents interventions. 
  3. Advocates for patients to promote a safe and quality patient care.
    1. Provides ethical and holistic care by partnering with other health care providers within and outside of the department. 
  4. Facilitates learning environment for patients to educate them on disease processes and treatments.
    1. Helps educate patients on the care being provided to them and the treatment plan they are prescribed.
    2. Provides patients with the education material needed to ensure health literacy.

The pay range for this position is $37.50-$53.06 + 15% per diem diff.
