The pay range for this position is $60.99-95.17. 

Position Summary: 

The Director of Nursing is accountable for leading and managing diverse of departments; whose services and programs contribute to safe ‐ timely‐ effective, efficient, and equitable patient and family centered care goals.  Working within the strategic direction of the health system, the Director of Nursing provides leadership, team focus, managerial support, and direction in achieving excellence in patient care aligned with Guthrie’s mission.  The Director of Nursing is responsible for the implementation of the organizations philosophy, core values, quality results, evidence‐based practices and policies and facilitates improvements in operational processes.  The Director of Nursing must have outstanding supervisory, developmental, and administrative skills that will service to optimize access to patient care services while assuming compliance with Federal, State, and local laws.  The Director of Nursing must be able to successfully work with teams, benchmark best practices and utilize system databases that serve to promote and sustain a healthy work environment.  Must advocate and promote nursing excellence at the entity.

Education, License & Cert: 

BSN and MSN required. Able to be licensed as a Registered Nurse within the state of Pennsylvania.  Specialty certifications in a health‐related nursing field encouraged.

Experience: 

Five to ten years of experience in health care operations with at least three years in a leadership role.  Must possess the knowledge and ability to manage hospital operations through administrative ability, initiative, resourcefulness, with executive and analytical ability.  Must have experience in strategic planning, organizational assessment, and have highly developed leadership and interpersonal skills.

Essential Functions: 

1. Utilizes available performance and financial tools, specialty databases and systems to monitor departments, services, programs, and organizational performance in relation the budget and quality improvement goals.  Assures that Quality Improvement targets, action plans and concurrent data charts are posted in all units and that staff is engaged and supported in meeting / exceeding these targets.  Intervenes as needed.

2. Selects, trains, develops, and evaluates department leaders and management teams.  Initiates personnel actions in accordance with Human Resource policies and organization’s philosophy.  Monitors the progress of management team and employee performance, reviews skills and practices, assesses training needs, and facilitates appropriate educational programs.  Ensure timely staff performance evaluations, establishes goals and criteria of performance for staff and direct reports and implements appropriate action for achievement.  Holds direct reports accountable for optimum outcomes.

3. Consistently employs a variety of communication methods best suited for direct reports and staff to ensure two‐way communication and collaborative monitoring of facility operations and targets.  Makes regular clinical and medical rounds a priority to support and enhance communication and trust.  Demonstrates leadership traits aligned with transformational leadership style.

4. Evaluates, monitors, and supports development and implementation of organizational policies and procedures in compliance with State, Federal and other regulatory guidelines.  Assures adequate preparation and readiness for, and participate in, regulatory compliance surveys.

5. Serves as a designee as assigned by the President/COO in hers/his absence and is on Call 24/7.

6. Reports to the EVP/System Chief Nursing Officer with matrix reporting to President/COO at site.

7. Directs and administers assigned functions to ensure high quality, cost‐effective patient services which meet or surpass accreditation standards.

8. Establishes and nurtures collaborative and supportive relationships with staff, physicians, health care facilities and the statewide community.  Develops relationships and networks within Guthrie.

9. Creates culture that supports the patient at the center to optimize necessary services, address issues and requests and intervenes in a timely manner.

10. Develop annual operating plans to meet hospital strategic goals and support functions, monitors performances and takes timely constructive and corrective actions.  Develops, implements, and maintains the division’s annual operating budget, ensuring that operations are managed within the established guidelines.  Establishes financial and programmatic goals and conducts on‐going evaluation of goals achieved.

Other Duties: 

Completes initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department. Demonstrates personal and interpersonal qualities that support the Core Values of Guthrie
