About this role

Gunderson Dettmer is seeking a Director of Community Engagement – Funds to join our market-leading private funds practice executing on go-to-market strategy and client engagement initiatives. This role combines key account support with pipeline management. Reporting to the Chief Revenue Officer and working closely with attorneys, this individual will use internal data and market insights to develop and implement targeted engagement initiatives for private investment funds, supporting general counsel (VCGCs), investment professionals, and emerging fund managers, leveraging our network and resources to contribute to their success.

Job Responsibilities

  • Leverage internal and external data to identify qualified opportunities and segment the private investment fund client base

  • Work with Gunderson partners to design and execute innovative engagement programs that support the private investment funds community by delivering relevant thought leadership and connection opportunities

  • Serve as a connector across the broader Gunderson network, providing clients and prospects with relevant content, introductions and access to exclusive opportunities and knowledge-sharing forums

  • Work closely with the communications team to implement a comprehensive outreach plan, ensuring the market is informed and engaged with our latest offerings and industry thought leadership

  • Track and report on the impact of all engagement initiatives, analyzing and communicating KPIs to internal stakeholders and evolving our efforts to meet the needs of our clients

  • Collaborate with the broader community engagement and business development team to coordinate efforts, share best practices, and enable meaningful connections between company and fund communities.

Job/Education Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus

  • 10+ years of program management, business development, or client engagement experience within professional services or an investment fund environment

  • Experience working within the venture capital and growth equity ecosystem

  • Proven track record of managing key accounts, developing and executing market-facing programs, leading client acquisition efforts and driving business growth among sophisticated fund clients

  • Expertise in segmenting client populations, building pipeline and tailoring engagement strategies to meet the needs of different audiences

  • Exceptional written, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to set targets, manage multiple projects, prioritize competing demands, and deliver outstanding results in a fast-paced environment

  • Strong relationship-building and stakeholder management skills; able to maintain regular dialogue and foster collaborative, long-term partnerships

  • Ability to work effectively both autonomously and as part of a team, applying sound judgment and discretion

  • Experience working across multiple office locations, with willingness to travel as needed

  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and CRM systems required

The annualized base salary range for this position is expected to be $200,000.00-$275,000.00. While this range reflects the minimum and maximum value for new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, the offer for the successful candidate for this position will be based on job related capabilities, applicable experience, and other factors such as work location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only and do not include bonus, benefits, or related incentives for which this position is eligible.
