About this role

Overview

The Terminal Supervisor interfaces between terminal operations and cargo services, especially with regard to inventory control. The Terminal Supervisor serves as a liaison between internal departments and the customer, in order to ensure excellent customer service. The role is also responsible for space planning, housekeeping, communicating and planning with vessel operations and other departments within the organization, direct labor, etc. 


Qualifications

  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience, including supervisory experience, in the Maritime industry is required
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Intermediate to advanced experience with MS Office (e.g., MS Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Required to obtain a TWIC card
  • Advanced communication skills in order to communicate with customers (internal and external customers
  • Must be able to read and write in English; bilingual in Spanish a plus
  • Able to respond to issues quickly, safely, and effectively in a fast-paced, stressful operating environment
  • Solid customer service and problem-solving skills
  • Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with customers and fellow employees at all levels within and external to the organization
  • Proven ability to think logically, excellent critical thinking skills, and can make sound decisions
  • Self-starter and able to independently handle daily tasks while also understanding the escalation process for assistance and knowing the limits of his/her authority
  • Flexible and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

 

  • Exposed to all outdoor environmental factors such as extreme heat, rain, wind, cold and high humidity during day and night shifts. 
  • Employee is frequently required to stand, walk, climb, bend forward, squat, twist, pinch and reach overhead.
  • Employee is required to climb 50ft+ vertical ladder.
  • Employee is frequently required to work at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Employee may be required to reach forward, sit, grasp and exercise repetitive foot and wrist motion and finger dexterity.  Eye-hand and eye-hand-foot coordination may also be required.
  • Employee is frequently required to talk and hear.
  • Employee is occasionally required to lift, carry, push and pull up to 30 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • Employee works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Employee is continuously exposed to dust, fumes and airborne particles.
  • Employee is exposed to a moderate to high level of noise.
  • May be required to work on holidays and weekends, as necessary. 

Responsibilities

  • Manage inventory control, both physically and within the online (STMS) system
  • Troubleshoot/problem-solve and act as a liaison for inventory/cargo questions from the customer, cargo services, and terminal operations.
  • Promote teamwork and communication
  • Supervise workers involved in shipping, operations, general labor, etc.
  • Manage space allocation for cargo/product
  • Promote and enforce effective housekeeping.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
