1.0 FTE / 40 hours per week

The Behavioral Health Unit Clerk - Psychiatry (Psychiatry Unit Clerk) will be the initial point person for the Psychiatric providers, Behavioral Health nurses, and SPARC. They will provide administrative functions for the Psychiatric providers and Behavioral Health nurses and will provide program coordination and support for SPARC. In addition, the Psychiatry Unit Clerk will have some cross coverage responsibilities for the Foundations IOP Unit Clerk. The Psychiatry Unit Clerk will work under the supervision of the Behavioral Health Nursing Manager with additional accountability to the Medical Director of Behavioral Health.

JOB SPECIFIC MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. High school graduate or equivalent required.
  2. Minimum one (1) year work experience in a setting that requires customer service skills required.  Work experience in a Medical Reception setting preferred. Relevant training may be substituted for work experience.  Previous experience using the telephone in a service capacity preferred.   Experience with medical terminology preferred.
  3. Excellent organizational skills required.
  4. Excellent verbal and written communication skills required.
  5. Excellent customer service skills required.  Ability to be culturally sensitive and work with a diverse patient population. 
  6. Ability to work harmoniously and cooperatively with all personnel and the public required.
  7. Ability to act in a professional manner when dealing with practitioner staff, personnel of other departments, fellow employees, and the public.
  8. Ability to maintain patient confidentiality required. Knowledge of or ability to learn HIPAA requirements.
  9. Knowledge of and ability to use various computer programs including Microsoft 365 Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, SharePoint, Teams) and Epic. 
  10. Ability to use and/or learn on-line systems such as electronic medical record and appointment scheduling.   Knowledge of Epic Systems is desirable, but not required.
  11. Ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks appropriately in rapid succession.
  12. Ability to be flexible in daily assignments.
  13. Ability to take and relay messages accurately and in a timely manner, including the ability to spell correctly.
  14. Ability to efficiently use a desktop computer (with a keyboard and mouse) for much of the shift required.\
