Position Description:

Forming Operators with setting up and operating forming machines and related peripheral / supporting equipment for the purpose of manufacturing formed and glued cartons They understand and align business operations and Forming Department as he/she executes their role to exceed customer expectations and align with GPI business, cultural, financial and operational objectives.

Essential Functions:

JOB FUNCTIONS: Job functions include, but are not limited to the following.

  • Stacks carton blanks in feed mechanism
  • Observes automatic feeding, forming, and gluing of box blanks to detect machine malfunctions
  • Stands-in for H&S/Geitz Forming Operator when he/she is unavailable (breaks, vacations)
  • Inspects completed work to detect defects and verify conformance to work order specifications, and adjust machinery as necessary to correct variations
  • Packs finished product (kick) into corrugate boxes as per customer requirements
  • Palletizes finished product
  • Prints labels
  • Keeps daily time and materials usage reports and records information in SAP
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance
  • Disassembles machines to maintain, repair, or replace broken or worn parts, using hand tools
  • Installs and adjust guide assemblies, forming towers, and forming blocks according to box blank dimensions and work order specifications, using hand tools
  • Moves controls to regulate glue application, to synchronize speed of machine components, and to adjust pressure of the glue
  • Adjusts machine controls to correct variations
  • Ensures that Health & Safety and SQF standards are maintained

Education and Experience Required:

  • Grade 12 or acceptable experience.
  • On-the-job related experience required.

Skills and Physical Requirement:

  • General schedules are an 8hr 3 shift operation and/or 12-hour continental shifts with rotating weekends off, however, employees must be willing to work alternate schedules or overtime that may include early mornings, nights, and/or weekends and be punctual while doing so.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Sitting or standing for extended periods.
  • Awkward and/or repetitive movements.
  • Occasional walking, bending and turning
  • Frequently reaching and twisting
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs.
  • Reading computer screen or other electronic devices.
  • Use of various hand and electrical tools and equipment.
  • Work in areas of fluctuating temperature.
