About this role

Position Summary/Purpose:

Grand Canyon University (GCU) maintains relationships with nonprofit organizations identified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) by virtue of their charitable programs. The collective mission of 501(c)(3) organizations in the Phoenix Valley is to improve the quality of life for community residents or to solve particular problems related to those residents’ needs.

GCU maintains a partnership with the Glendale Elementary School District (GESD) at 7301 N. 58th Avenue, Glendale, AZ, 85301. GESD is one of 22 school districts in the Phoenix Valley dedicated to fostering academic excellence through innovative learning experiences, with the goal of developing socially responsible leaders for the future. The CSLP student worker’s work schedule is dependent on the hours of operations and needs of GESD; however, CSLP student workers may not work more than 20 hours per week during the academic year (i.e., fall/spring). If eligible, CSLP student workers can work during summer (i.e., May – August).

CSLP: This position has been reviewed and approved as Community Service as defined by 34 CFR 675.2(b). Per 34 CFR 675.2(b), community services are defined as, “Services which are designed to improve the quality of life for community residents, particularly low-income individuals, or to solve particular problems related to their need.” These services must be open and accessible to the community.

As an FWS-CSLP approved position, its services will be offered to non-GCU community members (i.e., local residents).

Note: All FWS and FWS-CSLP positions require applicants to complete their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) at https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa to be reviewed for FWS-eligibility and awarded FWS.

Primary Responsibilities /Accountabilities/ Essential Functions:

Providing support to the Health Tech or Nurse on staff by:

  • Providing first aid to students and staff,

  • Performing health screenings,

  • Maintaining health records,

  • Other duties as assigned.

Equipment Used and Responsibility:

  • MS Office Suite

Qualifications:

  • Have passion and willingness to help others succeed.

  • Possess strong ethics, integrity, and sense of responsibility.

  • Must have reliable transportation.

  • Previous Mentoring a plus.

  • Ability to speak a second language a plus.

Experience/Education:

Grand Canyon University is committed to a student first policy. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following eligibility requirements to be considered for student employment:

  • Enrolled at GCU as a full-time student in a Bachelor’s program or Master’s program.

  • Retain a 2.0 GPA as a Bachelor level student or a 3.0 GPA as a Master level student.

  • Maintain good financial and academic (SAP) standing with the University.
     

You may be subject to termination if you fall below the minimum requirements.

Pay Rate: Minimum Wage

Anticipated End Date: June 30, 2026
