The POI team is part of the Grab Geo department. We are responsible for building the POI data system for Southeast Asia and key geo-services including search, recommendation, geocoding, and reverse geocoding, which support all of Grab's businesses across ride-hailing, food delivery, and payments.

Get to know the role

We are seeking a Backend Engineer. In the digital age, leveraging online resources is key to building vibrant, rich, and high-quality map data. We need your expertise to help us construct this essential platform and deliver a world-class Map Making service.

The Critical Task You Will Perform:

1. Responsible for designing, architecting, and implementing highly concurrent, highly available, and scalable distributed map data search, geocoding, and reverse geocoding systems.
2. Process massive volumes of heterogeneous map data from various sources, performing end-to-end parsing, integration, and data normalization.
3. Explore and implement cutting-edge technologies such as Large Language Models (LLMs) for intelligent parsing, data generation, data quality validation, and other scenarios, continuously improving data collection efficiency, reducing costs, and enhancing data quality.
4. Conduct technical planning and innovation: continuously track industry advanced technologies, perform technology research and prototype development, introduce new technologies and tools to the team, and formulate a long-term technical development roadmap.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

1. Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Science or a related field.
2. Possess solid foundational computer science knowledge, a deep understanding of common algorithms, data structures, computer networks, and operating system principles.
3. Proficient in at least one programming language among Python, Go, or Java, with a profound understanding of its asynchronous programming, concurrency models, and performance optimization.
4. Skilled in using mainstream database technologies, including but not limited to MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, and Elasticsearch.
5. Familiar with common data parsing, cleaning techniques, and related toolchains such as Hive, Presto, Spark, etc., and possess the ability to build automated data processing pipelines.
6. Personal Qualities: Strong curiosity, excellent self-learning ability, a spirit of tackling tough problems, and outstanding teamwork and communication skills.

Bonus Points

1. Profound comprehension of Large Language Model algorithms, experience with Fine-tuning and Prompt Engineering, and practical project experience applying them to data collection or processing.
2. In-depth understanding of the mapping industry and POI data.
