Join the Merchant AI Assistant team at Grab, where we're transforming merchant interactions through advanced conversational AI. We focus on integrating artificial intelligence, natural language processing, and merchant insights, enabling business owners to access personalised advice, streamline operations, optimize offerings, and gain valuable business insights via chat interfaces on mexApp. Our work aims to democratise powerful business tools for merchants across Southeast Asia, ensuring they have the support of a knowledgeable business consultant at their fingertips.

Get to Know the Role

We are seeking experienced Engineers to join our dynamic Merchant AI Assistant team in Singapore. As pivotal contributors, you will design, build, and maintain AI solutions that support merchants throughout the Grab ecosystem. Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, you will play a crucial role in enhancing our AI's effectiveness and efficiency.

You will report to the Senior Software Engineer Manager. This role will be based onsite at Grab office.

The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

• Design and implement core AI Agent modules, including dialogue orchestration, tool invocation, and memory/state management.
• Optimize Agent performance with prompt engineering, LangChain, and LangGraph, ensuring reliable and efficient execution.
• Build and maintain retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) pipelines with vector databases and caching for large-scale deployment.
• Rapidly prototype and validate new Merchant AI Assistant features, iterating from concept to proof-of-value.
• Drive architectural decisions for large-scale Agent systems, ensuring reliability, scalability, and efficient orchestration.
• Define and implement evaluation benchmarks and automated pipelines to measure Agent performance across accuracy, latency, robustness, and user satisfaction.
• Work closely with Product Managers and Researchers to validate new Merchant AI Assistant features and ensure practical business impact.

What Essential Skills You Will Need

To excel in this role, you should have:

• 5+ years of professional programming experience, with proven expertise in both Python and Go.
• Proven expertise in AI Agent frameworks (LangChain, LangGraph) and experience with RAG pipelines and vector databases.
• Solid foundation in backend technologies: microservices, databases, caching, and message queues.
• Excellent system design capabilities for code quality and scalability.
• Passion for generative AI, willingness to work with emerging research into practical applications.

Nice to have: Frontend skills (React/Flutter/Web) to build lightweight AI prototyping and evaluation tools.
