Reporting to either the Wildfire Operations Officer or Wildfire Prevention Officer, the wildfire technologist supports delivery of the Pre-Suppression, Suppression and Mitigation programs within the Edson or Hinton Forest Area. As a valued member of the team, your education, years of experience working in emergency wildfire management and proven track record in leading and supervising set you apart from other candidates. Working in the role, on a daily basis you will:
A good working knowledge of wildfire, forest and land management legislation, wildfire SOP’s and business rules, Incident Command (ICS), financial procurement processes, 1GX, the Master Agreement, AWARE, Dispatch, FIRES, Field Maps, and various Microsoft Applications including Outlook, Word, TEAMS, Excel is an asset.
A good working knowledge of wildfire management processes and practices, and several years of specialized wildfire training, and experience, coupled with a strong understanding of wildfire safety policy and procedure round out your strengths.

About Your Competencies:
Minimum Requirement:
The minimum requirements are a two-year related diploma plus four (4) years of related experience in wildfire operations, prevention and mitigation.
Directly related experience and or education may be considered on a one-for-one basis.
Additional requirements:
1. Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
2. Meet Department fitness standards for rostered positions and fireline certifications
3. Eligibility for registration with the Association of Alberta Forest Management Professionals
Asset:
Well-developed supervision and project management skills and experience is considered an asset.

Wildfire Technologist is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday. The incumbent may be requested to work overtime, including evening and weekends due to the emergency nature of wildfires.
The ability to travel within the Forest Area, throughout the province and other countries is required
Candidates may be asked to complete a written assignment as a part of the interview process.
