Definition of Position: 

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse to serve as Clinic Nursing Supervisor for our Internal Medicine clinic team. This position provides comprehensive clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers while directing and supervising nursing services in accordance with governmental and other regulatory standards. As a working supervisor and member of the clinic leadership team, this role combines direct patient care, electronic health record management, coordination of referrals and prior authorizations, and administrative functions with leadership responsibilities including staff supervision and education.


Responsibilities

Essential Job Functions:

Clinical Care & Patient Management

 

  • Conduct comprehensive nursing assessments and specialty-specific nursing visits
  • Perform post-operative wound checks, dressing changes, and wound care management as applicable
  • Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and treatments as ordered by physicians
  • Assist with procedures and examinations specific to the specialty area
  • Monitor vital signs and document patient responses to treatments
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to changes in patient condition
  • Perform diagnostic tests including EKGs, spirometry, glucose monitoring, and CLIA-waived laboratory tests as appropriate to scope of practice
  • Conduct focused nursing visits for blood pressure monitoring, suture/staple removal, injection appointments, weight checks, and routine procedures
  • Oversee nursing care essential to the assessment, promotion, maintenance and restoration of patients' health and wellness
  • Oversee patient needs and suggest solutions to patient care problems

 

Electronic Health Record Management & Communication

 

  • Monitor and triage Epic InBasket messages in accordance with clinic protocols
  • Provide telephone triage for patient calls regarding urgent/emergent care and clinical questions
  • Document all patient interactions, assessments, and interventions accurately in Epic
  • Manage referrals and coordinate care between specialties
  • Respond to patient portal messages and telephone calls within established timeframes
  • Assist with prior authorization requests and coordinate with referral staff as needed
  • Process prescription refill requests and coordinate with providers as needed
  • Maintain awareness of communication issues between physicians, nurses and patients receiving care in the GSMG Clinic
  • Demonstrate ability to resolve communication concerns with patients, family members and physicians

 

Patient Education & Support

 

  • Provide comprehensive patient and family education on disease processes, medications, and treatment plans
  • Develop and deliver specialty-specific education materials and instruction
  • Counsel patients on post-operative care, medication compliance, and lifestyle modifications specific to the specialty
  • Support patients in understanding diagnostic procedures and test preparations
  • Facilitate patient understanding of treatment options and discharge instructions
  • Convey empathy and compassion to patients and family members

 

Leadership & Staff Management

 

  • Serve as member of the GSMG clinic leadership team
  • Facilitate development of department mission, goals, policies, procedures, and work standards
  • Establish, maintain, and evaluate clinical services, including:
    • Development and recording of patient information
    • Supporting medical staff communications with patients and other providers
    • Transmitting information accurately and in a timely manner
    • Performing centralized nursing services, including timely and cost-effective ordering and stocking of supplies
  • Select, orient, train, and evaluate clinical staff
  • Schedule clinical staff to support the range and needs of medical group medical staff providers
  • Evaluate the performance of clinical staff through monitoring of individual work performance and competency evaluation
  • Ensure the development and delivery of clinical education to staff
  • Mentor and provide guidance to medical assistants, nurses and other support staff
  • Demonstrate proper nursing skills through job performance

 

Team Collaboration & Clinical Support

 

  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Work closely with physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants to ensure coordinated care
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and care planning conferences
  • Communicate effectively with ancillary departments and external healthcare providers
  • Collaborate effectively with medical assistants, assist with rooming patients when clinic flow requires additional support
  • Assist with examination room preparation and ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies
  • Support front office operations including appointment scheduling and phone coverage as needed

 

Quality & Compliance

 

  • Adhere to all clinic policies, procedures, and safety protocols
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory requirements including OSHA, HIPAA, and DNV standards
  • Maintain quality and efficiency standards as set by clinic practice manager and make recommendations for improvements
  • Participate in the Performance Improvement Process
  • Compile and analyze data, prepare and present statistical information on department performance, productivity, and activity, to administration as needed
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical outcome measurements
  • Ensure proper infection control practices and sterilization procedures
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and therapeutic environment for patients and staff

 

Professional Development & Representation

 

  • Represent GSHCS in a professional manner while performing job duties for patients/families, physicians, visitors and/or other staff members as evidenced by appropriate language, dress, and conduct
  • Participating in activities which promote professional growth and self-development
  • Make customer relations a priority in all aspects of the work environment
  • Attend pertinent in-services, departmental and other meetings as requested by clinic manager
  • Adhere to GSHCS professional dress code

 

General Support:

 

  • Position requires flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as patient care needs and clinic operations dictate
  • May be assigned to work across various medical specialties within the Good Shepherd Medical Group

 

Additionally:

  • The employee supports the hospital mission, vision, values, policies, and procedures.
  • Participates in required education for DNV programs as applicable to position (reference program education curriculum).
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

Education

              Required: Graduate of an accredited school of professional nursing.

Preferred: NA             

Licenses/ certifications/ registrations

Required: Current, unrestricted Oregon Registered Nurse license. Current BLS certification.

Preferred: ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification

Specialty certification relevant to assigned clinic area (e.g., CPN for Pediatrics, CGRN for Gastroenterology).

 

Experience

Required: The ability to work with a culturally diverse population.

Preferred: Bilingual and/or English Spanish speaking. Minium 2 years of clinical nursing experience. Experience with Epic electronic health record system. Knowledge of evidence-based practice and quality improvement methodologies  

 

Other

 

  • Knowledge in computers, phones, and other office equipment.
  • Knowledge in clinical equipment including but not limited to: EKG, vital sign monitoring devices, glucometer, scales, various lab testing equipment, etc.

Physical Requirements:

The physical and sensory functions described below are essential to the successful performance of this position. The position requires sufficient auditory ability to detect and respond to various sounds, including patient alarms and verbal communication. Clear and effective communication is essential, as is the ability to interact with patients, families, and healthcare team members. Visual acuity is necessary for observing patient conditions, reading documentation and monitors, and distinguishing colors for clinical purposes, such as identifying medications or safety indicators. Tactile perception is also important for assessing physical characteristics such as temperature, size, shape, or texture during patient care. Motor coordination is required for reaching, grasping, handling, and performing fine motor tasks necessary for the use of medical equipment and procedures. The position also involves occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling when assisting patients or accessing equipment. Walking and standing are typically continuous throughout the shift. The role requires the ability to lift to 50 pounds independently and involves frequent pushing, pulling, carrying, or repositioning of objects or patients weighing up to 25 pounds. There may also be occasional lifting or transferring of individuals weighing over 100 pounds, with the expectation that appropriate lifting techniques, mechanical aids, or team assistance will be used to ensure safety. May to sit for long periods of time.

 

Working Conditions:

This position is performed primarily in an indoor healthcare environment, such as a hospital, clinic, or long-term care facility. While the work setting is protected from outdoor weather conditions, it may be subject to variable indoor temperatures. The role involves frequent exposure to infectious and contagious diseases, hazardous materials, and medical equipment, with the expectation that all staff follow appropriate safety protocols and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

 

The health care environment can be fast-paced and unpredictable, requiring the ability to respond quickly to changing circumstances, including high-pressure or emergency situations. The work setting also involves multiple simultaneous demands and varying levels of noise due to medical equipment, staff activity, and patient needs.
