Job Summary

TYLin is seeking a full-time Operator for the traffic management team at the JFK Airport Operations Center (AOC). The position will be full time at the JFK AOC. The anticipated work hours for this position are tentatively overnight from 9PM – 7AM or 4AM – 2PM or 1PM-11PM four days a week (including working one day of the weekend weekly and holidays on a rotating basis). The JFK AOC Operators will be the main personnel actively monitoring traffic conditions, maintaining a log of events and disseminating traffic status information to airport stakeholders.

Responsibilities & Qualifications

  • Good oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to remain composed during stressful high pressure situations.

  • Ability to work independently and as a team member in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Experienced with Microsoft Office suite (particularly Excel).
  • Experienced with using ITS devices used at TMC’s (cameras, VMS, etc.).
  • Basic knowledge of data analytics to help make data driven decisions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Monitor and control intelligent transportation systems including but not limited to CCTV, PAPD and Port Authority Operations radio channels, PVMS and VMS.
  • Monitor data from the JFK AOC Operational Dashboards to actively manage landside traffic conditions throughout the airport.
  • Identify and report potential road hazards, signal timing, or traffic patterns that impede optimal traffic flow.
  • Follow all SOPs and guidelines in the JFK AOC Traffic Management Handbook and Playbook developed by the Operations Manager in conjunction with the Shift Supervisors.
  • Log all events, mitigations, incidents and construction closure that impact traffic conditions.
  • Preparing and sending periodic traffic status updates summarizing traffic conditions, mitigations implemented, flight delays and cancellations, PAPD posts and officers, relevant incidents and any construction closure that may impact traffic conditions.
  • Coordinate with the PAPD Construction Sergeant/Lieutenant to keep traffic flowing throughout the airport.
  • Responsible for answering phone calls.
  • Assisting the Shift Supervisor with communicating relevant traffic conditions to airport stakeholders at the JFK AOC.
  • Responsible for preparing and end of shift report that will summarize staffing of the traffic management team at the AOC, PAPD Staffing in the field, peak hour volumes and mitigations implemented during the operational period.
  • Monitoring the facility email inbox and replying to email messages as necessary.
  • Must be flexible with their schedule and will be required to work a weekend shift weekly and on holidays on a somewhat regular basis.
  • On rare occasions, you may be required to work extra hours or be on-call 24/7 at any time as the situation dictates including weekends, overnights, holidays, and in inclement weather as needed.
