Pay Rate:

$24.00-$30.50 / hr., based on prior experience

About The Role:

This position supports Global Cellulose Fibers’ Columbus Modified Fiber (CMF) facility, located in Columbus, Mississippi.  CMF is a vital part of GCF’s Business.  We are a converting operation that produces specialty fibers used in the production of diapers, filtration products, and other absorbent personal care products.

The following duties are typical of this position, but may not be all inclusive.  Each person is expected to help with whatever duties are required to ensure safety, operational excellence, and a cost-effective workplace.

  • Industrial manufacturing-based role in which you will help troubleshoot & solve daily process or reliability problems, update work systems, procedures, mill process drawings; collect and analyze data; gather and test process samples; perform chemical tests in a lab; monitor processes; conduct process testing; and more.
  • Safety leadership – awareness of safety hazards, willingness to intervene when a work condition or action is deemed unsafe, wear appropriate PPE, etc.
  • Learn & use LEAN/Six Sigma systems and processes to solve complex issues
  • Collaborate and interact with engineers, hourly team members, contractors, and managers
  • Lead or work with teams on specific value-added projects for the mill, such as optimization or cost-reduction
  • May manage contract workers
  • Learn systems and tools for collecting, analyzing, and presenting data

About You: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Working on a college degree (B.S.) in engineering / STEM major:  e.g., chemical, electrical, environmental, mechanical, paper science engineering preferred.  Grad date by August 2028.
    • Similar/related majors:  Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering, Instrumentation & Controls, Instrumentation Engineering Technology, Manufacturing Engineering, etc. will also be considered.
  • Desires to work in heavy manufacturing setting, around large equipment, where conditions may be hot or cold, loud, and dirty
  • Safety-first mindset
  • Learns on the fly, adapts in a highly dynamic environment, and effectively copes with and manages change
  • Motivation to self-start, drive results, and perform well in a team setting
  • An agile work ethic
  • Demonstrates strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication (active listening, informing, timely, verbal and written) and interpersonal skills
  • Applied solid organizational skills
  • Exhibits leadership skills & experience (e.g., prior jobs or internships; projects; extracurricular campus activities, such as student associations, athletics, band, etc.)
  • Displays eagerness to develop and hone skills necessary for career success
  • Comfort with all levels of employees, including peers, engineers, contractors, hourly operators, and management
  • Must have access to reliable transportation
  • Open to potential conversion to full-time opportunities with GCF
