Overview

In this critical position, you’ll partner directly with the SVP of Product to define, execute, and evangelize the vision for Copilot’s experience on GitHub.com. You’ll work hands-on with designers, engineers, and cross-functional partners to deliver an intuitive, delightful, and AI-powered experience for millions of developers around the world.

 

Your mission: make Copilot the tool developers can’t imagine working without, by focusing on usability, discovery, and workflow integration. Always with a relentless attention to detail and a bias for clarity over flash.

Responsibilities

  • Help define and ship end-to-end Copilot user experiences on GitHub.com, with a focus on making AI-powered development frictionless, powerful, and accessible.
  • Build and drive the product strategy for Copilot UX, partnering closely with the SVP of Product and the design and engineering teams.
  • Lead innovation in product design—set a high bar for design quality, usability, and developer delight. Make design a competitive advantage.
  • Engage deeply with customers and the developer community—listen, learn, and turn insights into differentiated product experiences.
  • Represent the developer’s perspective in every decision. Advocate for the needs, workflows, and challenges of real users.
  • Collaborate across teams and disciplines to align on goals, define priorities, and deliver high-impact solutions.
  • Analyze usage data and customer feedback to identify pain points and opportunities. Use data to inform and prioritize work, not just to report on it.
  • Define clear, measurable success criteria at product inception; track and communicate progress to stakeholders.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Copilot user experience and a connector between product, design, engineering, and business partners.
  • Champion a culture of innovation, clarity, and empathy for developers.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • 10+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in related field AND 8+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field
    • OR equivalent experience
  • Experience leading user experience or product design for developer tools or technical products.
  • Experience engaging with customers and presenting to executive audiences.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% to meet with users, partners, and teams as needed.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong track record of shipping products that solve real user problems and are loved by their communities.
  • Master’s Degree in Business, Marketing, or related field AND 13+ years experience in product/service/project/program management, software development, product design, or related field.
  • Experience working on developer products.
  • Experience working with AI-based products.
  • Experience working remotely and influencing distributed teams.

Compensation Range

The base salary range for this job is USD $160,200.00 - USD $425,000.00 /Yr.

These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States. An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant. At GitHub certain roles are eligible for benefits and additional rewards, including annual bonus and stock. These rewards are allocated based on individual impact in role. In addition, certain roles also have the opportunity to earn sales incentives based on revenue or utilization, depending on the terms of the plan and the employee's role.
