At GFT, we’re not just engineering the future; we’re meticulously building it. Our comprehensive suite of construction and program management services reflects our unwavering commitment to excellence, safety, innovation, and sustainability. Our construction management services are the cornerstone of our commitment to transforming communities and enhancing lives. We oversee every construction phase to help ensure projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards.

What you'll be challenged to do:

This position is responsible for reporting directly to construction sites to observe and document contractor’s work conforms to contract requirements, maintaining project files/documentation, compiling and calculating quantities of work performed to be used in calculating monthly contractor payments, and interacting with clients on a regular basis.

In this capacity, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Checking the contractor’s line and grade as work progresses and documenting these checks in the diary
  • Carrying out site inspections to verify that the construction works and installation of equipment are in accordance with the contract document
  • Serve as the field point of contact for the client and all project stakeholders.
  • Conduct reviews and verifications of construction schedules, including baseline and updates, in coordination with the client.
  • Perform inspections and oversee field testing. Prepare daily reports. Maintain construction contract records.
  • Assist in the preparation and negotiation of construction change orders.
  • Occasionally chair project progress meetings and distribute meeting minutes.
  • Ensure site safety, permit compliance, and coordination with adjacent projects.
  • Monitor contractor compliance with safety and health plans as well as quality assurance requirements.
  • Work with the contractor to minimize disruptions to the public.
  • Log and coordinate with designer and contract administrator to respond to contractor submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings.
  • Prepare punch lists with the owner upon project completion.
  • Ensuring that all reports for field testing, including manufacturers reports, are provided prior to the commissioning of the works
  • Investigating, reporting and advising on unforeseen circumstances that arise during construction such as differing underground soil conditions, claims from the contractor, etc.
  • Reviewing contractor’s request for payments as to progress, quantities of work completed and materials delivered to the site and advising on validity prior to issuing payment certificates
  • Verifying “final” shop drawings are submitted by the contractor
  • Maintaining a “marked-up” set of drawings to show “as-built” works

What you will bring to our firm:

  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in transportation construction inspection in the Toronto, ON/GTA area.
  • OACETT Designation (C.E.T, C.Tech, A.Sc.T).

What we prefer you bring:

  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle in good working order.
  • Demonstrated experience on construction sites including project examples, with a focus on municipal infrastructure projects – roadways and bridges.
  • Experience in all aspects of inspections and strong understanding of health and safety codes and regulations.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
