About this role

The System Technician will be responsible for both the operations and maintenance all aspects of the sort system at the facility in a manner that will ensure safe and optimal system performance. This role will work closely with the maintenance departments. Due to the expertise required for this role, the person in this position will also make recommendations for continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Duties

  • Daily inspection of all system during system warm up to ensure safe and efficient start-up.
  • Review and document the result of system checks all suggestions to be given to Supervisor.
  • Ensure specialty equipment such as screens, Eddy Currents, and drumfeeders are cleaned before system start-up
  • Ensure that work areas are kept clean and organized. 
  • Trouble shoots the system to prevent jam ups.
  • Be sure to include comments in deficiency reports about any observations to potential maintenance issues.
  • Maintain a steady flow of material on the line via screen angles, disk and conveyor speeds. Ensure that there is always a good balance of fiber and containers on the line.
  • Ensure all aspects of system are operating properly during production (ie film hood, bag breaker and drumfeeders)
  • Accurately document system downtime and necessary repairs that must be made on system that are observed during operations on forms provided.  Forms are to be submitted to supervisor.
  • Other duties may be assigned with operational changes.
  • Must be in communication with other operators to assist in operational changes to ensure the efficient operation of the system.
  • Perform mechanical repairs to the system as assigned by the System Supervisor
  • Participate in maintenance meetings as required
  • Complete other duties and projects as assigned.

Requirements

  • At least 2 years’ experience working in a recycling facility.
  • Excellent understanding of the operation process.
  • Keen attention to detail.

Employee Relations

  •      Assist Department when necessary to cover absenteeism & vacation.
  •      Report absenteeism to your Manager via telephone, text or email.
  •      Communicate with administrative, plant and supervisory staff as required.
  •      Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.
  •      Provide and/or participate in training as required.
  •      Comply with company rules, policies and procedures.

When touring the operation facilities, the following Personal Protective Equipment must be worn:

  •      CSA approved Safety Shoes
  •      Hearing Protection
  •      High Visibility Clothing
  •      Gloves
  •      Safety Glasses
  •      CSA approved Hard Hats
