We're a small team that’s growing quickly—our ARR grew over 10x in 2025—by shipping a strongly differentiated SaaS product.</p> <h2><strong>The Role</strong></h2> <p><strong>Location:</strong>&nbsp;Hybrid — NYC, Portland, Boise, or Bozeman</p> <p><strong>Compensation:&nbsp;</strong>$130k - $175k+ &amp; equity</p> <p>GetWhys is looking for a <strong>Backend Software Engineer</strong> to help build, maintain and scale the core services that power our product. You’ll focus on backend systems, data pipelines, and infrastructure that support user facing features and LLM-powered workflows.</p> <p>The role is ideal for someone who enjoys designing reliable systems, working close to data, and making pragmatic tradeoffs in a fast-moving startup environment.</p> <h2>In this role</h2> <ul> <li>Design, build and maintain backend services that power GetWhys’ core application.</li> <li>You’ll own APIs, data models, and services that support product features and internal tooling.</li> <li>Work with structured and unstructured data, including pipelines that support analytics and AI workflows.</li> <li>Improve reliability, performance and observability of production systems.</li> <li>Help evolve our backend architecture as usage and data volume grows.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>What We're Looking For</strong></h2> <ul> <li>2+ years of experience as a backend or platform-focused software engineer.</li> <li>Strong experience designing and maintain backend services in production.</li> <li>Comfortable working with databases, data modeling and APIs.</li> <li>Familiarity with RAG concepts (embeddings, retrieval strategies, evaluation) is a plus.</li> <li>Experience supporting AI workflows is a plus.</li> <li>Experience building or prototyping LLM-powered workflows using foundation models such as OpenAi, Gemini, Anthropic or Deepseek is a plus.</li> <li>Startup experience, especially having helped build a product from scratch or early stages is a plus.</li> </ul> <h2><strong>Benefits</strong></h2> <ul> <li>Healthcare, Dental, and Vision insurance (90% of your deductible, 75% of your dependents’)</li> <li>401(k) with 3% company match</li> <li>Unlimited PTO</li> <li>12 weeks paid parental leave</li> <li>18 company holidays, with unlimited PTO <ul> <li>Our suggested minimum is at least 10 business days of PTO per year.</li> </ul> </li> <li>We’re a historically remote company; NYC, Boise, Bozeman, and Portland are our first hubs, where we’ll have a hybrid office environment. <ul> <li>We’ll always be remote friendly (e.g., no “X days in office”).</li> <li>Regular team- and company-wide in person gatherings.</li> </ul> </li> <li>Ground-floor opportunity to build and lead a critical function at a growing startup</li> </ul> <h2>&nbsp;</h2>
