Job Description

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Concord, NC three times per week, at minimum.

The Role

GM Motorsports Competition Engineering is seeking a Performance Engineer to assist with optimization of car and driver performance on the LMDh program. This role will work closely with the GM Motorsports team and interface directly with the paired racing team during races, tests and for all supporting analysis.

What You’ll Do

  • Play a key role as a performance engineer for Cadillac LMDh racing teams

  • In-person operational support of all races, track tests and simulator sessions with paired team

  • Perform pre- and post-race data analysis; provide key information of race context to the Sports Car Racing Program Team

  • Manage dynamic simulation work conducted by your team and perform static simulation tasks in between races

  • Support in-house development and improvement of software tools

  • Create simulation reports

  • Develop advanced tools and methodologies to ensure overall competitiveness

  • Represent racing team needs as a stakeholder in the GM Motorsports toolchain development process

What You’ll Need (Required Qualifications):

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Physics, or a related subject

  • 2 or more years of relevant motorsports experience gained in vehicle dynamics, software, systems engineering, simulation, or related field

  • Must be a great teammate, be able to work a flexible schedule and have a high level of integrity

  • Ability to respectfully command cooperation

  • Multi-tasking in a dynamic ever-changing environment and bring a strong work ethic and integrity

  • Excellent written, verbal skills, interpersonal and communication skills

  • Initiative to take on assignments and resolve issues with little guidance

  • Ability and eagerness to master new skills quickly

  • Up to 50% Regular Domestic and/or International Travel Required

What Will Give You A Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)

  • Experience with racing engineering, either professional or amateur, highly desired especially a series with Balance of Performance

  • Software experience such as C, C#, MATLAB, Simulink, Python, .NET environment, or similar

  • Systems integration experience

    • Data acquisition

    • Motorsports vehicle electronics

    • Hybrid/EV systems

  • Simulation experience desired

    • Lap Time Simulation

    • Vehicle modeling

    • Parameter Optimization

This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the selected candidate is expected to report to a specific location at least 3 times a week {or other frequency dictated by their manager}. The selected candidate will be required to travel on a regular basis (25-50%) for this role. This job may be eligible for relocation benefits.
