About this role

Overview

An opportunity to assist in the development of Strategic Weapons System (SWS) test procedures and supporting documentation for the all new Columbia/Dreadnought class of ship.  This position will be instrumental in ensuring all coordinated requirements of the new weapon system have been met during construction.  As part of the test and integration logistics support team, each interface and component needs unique expertise to understand the dynamic aspects of testing to ensure first time quality and delivery to the Navy a superior product.  This tasking will follow through delivery of all contracted hulls assigned to class as well as supporting testing with ongoing life support of both Ohio and Columbia classes. Development includes creation and review of procedures supporting multiple facilities.   Execution includes deckplate support, troubleshooting, providing engineering support, as well as corrections back to the development team.  Specific technical areas include: Weapons Power, Missile Gas, Missile Heating and Cooling, Missile Tube, Navigation, Hovering and Missile Compensation, as well as supporting components such as fiber and copper cable testing, standard maintenance procedures, and ventilation management.

 

Assignments include new construction test procedure development in New London with execution support in Groton, Quonset Point, and BAE shipyard in the UK.  For OHIO and VANGUARD test execution can include efforts as part of Ship Alterations, Extended Refit Periods at US/UK public shipyards and bases.

 

Coordination with design, engineering and tech pubs and provide technical direction for the update and maintenance of SSBN / SSGN including SHIPALT development.

 

Additional responsibilities include support for resolution of SWSS / AWSS Trouble Failure Reports (TFRs), Trouble Casualty Reports (TCRs), Liaison Action Requests (LARs), TDENTs etc.

 

Travel required to support work assignments may include ShipAlt installations at Bangor Washington, Kings Bay Georgia, United Kingdom, SWS Ashore testing at Cape Canaveral FL, but primarily will support COLUMBIA construction and test efforts at Quonset Point and Groton.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Ability to read system diagrams and similar engineering drawings
  • Work travel is periodically required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 4+ years experience with submarine test programs and interface controls
  • Ability to effectively work with multiple technical organizations, program offices both within EB and with Navy personnel

Preferred:

  • Associates degree or higher in a technical field
  • Electrical/mechanical testing experience
  • System level engineering capabilities
  • Working knowledge of the SWS / AWS, associated support systems and equipment arrangements
  • Leadership experience
  • Teamcenter skills
  • CAC issued
