Overview

This is an experienced position in Material Control. Material Control maintains warehouse and buffer storage for all Submarine Programs. This role could be located in warehouses within the Groton Shipyard or our offsite locations in North Stonington, Norwich & Plainfield.

 

The Logistics Analyst is responsible to support these programs by providing oversight of the strategic planning function. The successful candidate must be a self-starter and able to work with minimal direction. This individual will also be a key decision maker and will be required to make timely and accurate decisions. The Logistics Analyst is expected to take ownership of the strategic vision and execution of work for their area(s) of responsibility with a focus on continuous improvement and reduction in material touches and lost material. The successful candidate will be accountable to support the Material Coordinators in assigning daily work to warehouseman and administrative clerks and resolve customer questions and problems. In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for writing, reviewing and dispositioning engineering documents (including Engineering Reports, Change Requests/Change Notice’s & Deficiency Finding’s).

 

The Logistics Analyst is responsible for establishing and maintaining metrics that support the strategic goals of Material Control. The Logistics Analyst is part of a team that is responsible for meeting and exceeding inventory accuracy level of 97.5% and will be expected to use strategic fortitude to ensure these requirements are met. They are also responsible for assessing errors and defining corrective actions and process changes if the level drops below 97.5%.

 

This position is not an entry level position, the successful candidate will act as an extension of management with the expectation to document and report on performance based goals. The successful candidate will act as a champion of continuous improvement: evaluating current processes and lead/support process improvement initiatives to reduce handling and warehouse cost while improving customer service.

This position will require supporting weekend duty and may require off shift duty work as needed.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Strategic oversight of the business and process of management and movement of material needed to support construction of all classes of submarines built at Electric Boat
  • The position requires someone who can interpret technical requirements and has acumen to draft and/or modify policies and procedures as needed to adapt to current practices
  • Strong understanding of logistics management, data management & KPI reporting, project reporting, material availability analysis, review of schedules, support of up and downstream customers
  • The position will entail significant professional interactions with various customers including:
    • EB & SUPSHIP Program Offices, NAVSEA and NAVSUP, Operations, Planning Departments, Purchasing, various Quality Departments, Government Agencies, Newport News Ship Building, and EB Off-Site Departments
  • Fiscal understanding when analyzing documents and when purging material as scrap or excess
  • Candidates require daily use of various reports and computer driven systems.

Qualifications

Required:

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalency
  • 2+ years of experience in directly working in supply chain or logistics
  • Ability to travel between sites that support the Groton Shipyard (Groton, Eagle Park, Norwich & Plainfield)
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting process improvement initiatives
  • On occasion may need to be flexible to work other shifts.  (This is a 1st shift role).
  • Applicant must possess or be able to secure secret or higher DOD clearance

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience with Oracle
  • Military/Navy experience
  • Experience in Material, Planning, and/or Production Control or equivalent shipyard knowledge 
  • A working knowledge of MRP, Oracle & JCALS, and strong desktop computer skills using Microsoft programs, e.g., Excel, MSWord, Access, and Lotus Notes is desirable
  • Specialized knowledge is desired in hazardous material control and segregation
