Department 428 is seeking highly motivated individuals to support the design and construction of the COLUMBIA Class submarines. D428 engineers support a wide variety of HM&E electrical systems across the following areas; monitoring and control systems (HMC), fire detection systems (FDS) and the integrated communication system (ICS). D428 engineers also support the development of internal and external cableways for COLUMBIA Class.

 

Responsibilities

  • Develop design disclosures such as cabling diagrams, wiring tables, cable routing sheets, and assembly and detail drawings to support COLUMBIA Class construction
  • Develop component procurement specifications and manage vendors that design, manufacture, and qualify components for the COLUMBIA Class
  • Troubleshooting / deck plate support for issues identified by the construction team

This varies from position to position based on the amount of classified material the department interacts with, as well as a few other variables. Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering
  • 0-5 years post-graduate experience.
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense secret clearance

Preferred:

  • Masters degree in Electrical or Systems engineering
  • Experience in subcontractor management
  • Experience in system component design, qualification and integration
  • Experience in ship construction

Skills

  • Candidate must be highly motivated and be capable of performing independently, as well as interact with other groups and organizations in a team environment
  • Candidate must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, communication, and technical writing skills
  • Some travel may be required
