The Manager, Lab Portfolio Planning will be responsible for translating Generac Development Process (GDP) product and project plans into actionable, integrated plans for the engineering test laboratories. This role ensures lab readiness for all NPI programs, manages Lab19 compliance, plans long-range capability and capacity, and oversees CapEx and infrastructure projects that support laboratory operations. Acting as central coordination point, this role bridges NPI teams and engineering lab operations, enabling effective planning, communication and readiness for all programs.

Major Responsibilities

  • Portfolio Translation: Convert GDP product and project roadmaps into integrated lab readiness plans across short-, mid-, and long-term horizons.
  • Lab19 Compliance: Ensure all NPI programs have Lab19-compliant detailed test plans; maintain governance and documentation.
  • Capability & Capacity Planning: Maintain a catalog of lab capabilities; identify gaps and plan upgrades to meet future program needs.
  • Scheduling Coordination: Oversee master scheduling for test cells and resources; resolve conflicts and ensure schedule adherence.
  • CapEx & Infrastructure Planning: Develop and manage long-range CapEx plans; coordinate infrastructure projects with Facilities and EHS.
  • GDP Representation: Serve as the lab representative in GDP reviews; provide readiness status and risk assessments.
  • Customer Interface: Act as the single point of contact for lab planning with Consumer Power and Industrial Energy teams.
  • Metrics & Reporting: Track and report KPIs for readiness, compliance, utilization, and CapEx execution

Minimum Job Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, business, or equivalent work experience

Work Experience

  • 10 years of progressive work experience in engineering, product management of equipment, machinery, or other similar products
  • 3 years of progressive leadership experience
  • 7 years of project management experience in product development with global cross functional teams and global product releases throughout the entire product life cycle

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

  • Expert level ability to deliver results while working simultaneously on multiple projects; balancing resources, timing and quality of outcomes
  • Expert level ability to lead the transformation from product requirements into a product design and realization plan to meet or exceed the product and business goals
  • Advanced ability to influence people and teams who are not all direct reports
  • Expert team building and leadership skills
  • Expert understanding of engineering technical issues/needs, manufacturing, supply chain, service, customer service, financial, sales, and marketing as related to product design and development
  • Advanced communication skills
  • Self-driven, highly motivated, flexible and high capacity to learn

Preferred Job Requirements

Education

  •  Advanced Degree in Business or Engineering

Work Experience

  • Experience in Engineering labs in OEM Engine manufacturers.
  • Previous experience using SAP or equivalent ERP

Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear; and use hands to manipulate objects or controls. The employee is regularly required to stand and walk.  On occasion the incumbent may be required to stoop, bend or reach above the shoulders. The employee must occasionally lift up to 25 - 50 pounds. Specific conditions of this job are typical of frequent and continuous computer-based work requiring periods of sitting, close vision and ability to adjust focus. Occasional travel.
