About this role

Are you an experienced Junior Hydrogeologist looking to progress your career? Are you a recent grad with a Bachelors or Master’s in engineering or Geology looking to pursue a career in hydrogeology? We're looking for a Junior Hydrogeologist to join our growing team. We are open to filling this position in our Fredericton, NB office.

At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We’re an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm—not too big, not too small. We’re large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.

Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.

You’re an ideal candidate if you have:

  • Previous environmental sampling or hydrogeology experience (via summer or co-op work terms) considered an asset.
  • Able to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment, and able to meet tight deadlines.
  • Able to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

A typical day on the job might look like:

  • Provide field and technical support for hydrogeology and environmental projects, including planning and supervising field programs, data collection and analysis, and contributing to technical reports and proposals.
  • Design and conduct field investigations such as drilling and core logging, test pitting, monitoring well installation, hydraulic testing, and soil, rock, groundwater, sediment, and surface water sampling.
  • Perform field testing and sampling of soil, sediment, surface water, groundwater, soil vapour, air, and hazardous building materials.
  • Measure and record field data using equipment such as water quality meters, water level meters, interface probes, PID meters, data loggers, GPS, and survey equipment.
  • Oversee drilling and contractor activities during assessments, remediation programs, pumping tests, and groundwater supply investigations.
  • Install and monitor groundwater instrumentation and collect high‑quality field documentation, including logs, photos, data tables, and site plans.
  • Assist with preparation of proposals and technical deliverables, including hydrogeologic assessments, dewatering studies, groundwater supply studies, environmental site assessments, remediation reports, and monitoring reports.
  • Compile, organize, and interpret laboratory data and regulatory criteria.
  • Work in challenging field conditions while handling and transporting equipment, supplies, and samples.
  • Adhere to client, corporate, and health and safety protocols.
  • Other duties as required.

The good stuff you get:

  • Full-time (37.5 hours per week)
  • Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc
  • Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it
  • Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year)

Your background and what you bring:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in geological engineering, geoscience, environmental engineering, hydrogeology or civil engineering.
  • Eligible to register with APEGNB as an MIT (EIT or GIT).
  • Experience working with Microsoft Excel and Word to tabulate data and prepare reports is required. Proficiency in other relevant software programs including AQTESOLV, MODFLOW, AutoCAD, GIS, and Adobe Acrobat, are considered an asset.
  • Valid driver’s license and have access to a personal vehicle for work related travel
