GEMTEC currently has an opening for a Geotechnical CO-OP Student in our London, Ontario office location for an 8-month CO-OP Term (May to December 2026).
You’re an ideal candidate if you have:
- Enrollment in a Civil Engineering degree or diploma program, preferably with a focus on Geotechnical Engineering or enrolled in the Construction Engineering Program or Civil Engineering Technology Program.
- Experience or interest in general construction activities, materials testing and inspection services.
- A desire to get hands-on experience in your field of study.
- The initiative to find the next task without being instructed
A typical day on the job might look like:
- Performing in situ testing of various materials on construction sites, compaction testing and testing of concrete and asphalt.
- Performing field testing and sampling of aggregates, soils, concrete, and asphalt.
- Preparation of summary field monitoring reports to document the results of your field testing and inspections.
- Various office, laboratory, and field tasks related to materials testing, geotechnical engineering, and environmental engineering
- Adhering to all company policies and demonstrate a safety-first focus.
- Performing other duties as required.

- Average of 37.5 hours per week plus overtime, when available
- Experience working with professional engineers and specialists in the field
- Compensation for mileage driving to sites
Your background and what you bring:
- Experience with materials testing and inspection is considered an asset..
- Experience working in civil construction is considered an asset.
- Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), strong organizational skills, and time management skills and the ability to prioritize several assignments at one time in order to deliver quality work on time and on budget.
- Personal vehicle with appropriate insurance and valid driver’s license
Pay Range: $20.50 - $23.50 CAD per hour
