Job Summary:

The Communications Specialist Senior partners with team members and subject matter experts to support internal communications, strategic planning, and implementation, which is designed to enhance communications leading to increased employee awareness of, and engagement in, organizational strategic priorities and the employees’ vital role in their success. The Specialist is primarily responsible for writing a wide range of content for distribution in a variety of communications forms to clinical and non-clinical employees.

Job Duties:

  • Collaborates with the entire Marketing team in the development and implementation of innovative and strategic employee communications designed to support Geisinger’s strategic plan.
  • Performs analyses and prepares reports for use in the planning process.
  • Gathers and interprets primary data accumulated through experience, personal relationships, employee forums, focus groups, surveys, etc.
  • that enable the departmnet and Human Resource leadership to make informed decisions.
  • Writes, edits, and distributes content designed to increase awareness and understanding among employees and providers on a variety of organizational priorities and initiatives.
  • Ensures quality standards are maintained.
  • Co-develops and implements innovative strategies, solutions, and programs designed to support Geisinger’s employee engagement and internal communications goals.
  • Ensures that employee and internal communications programs capitalize on the integrated nature of the department.
  • Engages and educates department colleagues to ensure that all activities make the best use of colleagues’ talents, tools and expertise.
  • Acts as a consultant and makes recommendations to clinical and administrative leaders.
  • Effectively represents thent within Geisinger.
  • Responsible for understanding strategic plans and goals.
  • Helps establish and maintain budgets.
  • Tracks and reports return on investment.
  • Identifies and effectively communicates strategic opportunities or threats in a timely and credible manner.
  • Collaborates on the interpretation of data and understands and responds to communications trends.
  • Generates innovative solutions and ideas that support Geisinger’s mission.
  • Leads specific, department-wide initiatives that contribute to the success of the department but may not be directly related to his and her day-to-day areas of responsibility.
  • Works effectively with external vendors: advertising and Public Relations agencies, writing consultants, benefits communications consultants, strategic communications experts, information services vendors, printers, mail houses, videographers, photographers, etc.


Work is typically performed in an office environment. Travel may be required. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
