Job Description Summary

The Lead Manufacturing Engineer role will provide non-conventional machining process support within Aerospace Supply Chain internal and external sites for the Integrated Manufacturing Excellence team. The primary responsibility will be to work with internal and external manufacturing shops to support a robust production process meeting quality, delivery and cost metrics. Additional activities may include supplier development, process development, technical training, costing methods and design board integration.

Job Description

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Non-Conventional Machining Process Capability and Development: The role involves leveraging expertise in advanced machining techniques to improve hardware producibility and process development during production phase. Primary focus on part marking or shot peen processes. Secondary focus on other non-conventional manufacturing processes.
  • Production: Working with production shops to ensure process development and planning to enable full-rate production meeting quality standards, process requirements and delivery timelines.  This may also include tech plan reviews/approvals, specification review/updates, and process audits.
  • Project Management: This role will require project scoping with internal and external shops which may include project planning, project execution, project management, and leading projects across multiple teams.
  • Supplier Development: The role may involve evaluating and developing new suppliers, working with suppliers on process development and production readiness to ensure they can meet the requirements of production quality.
  • Problem Solving: Working with internal and external sites to support process investigations involving cycle time, operating efficiency, non-conformance management, process capability and process improvement.
  • Should Cost Methods: This refers to analyzing and estimating the cost of manufacturing processes to ensure cost-effectiveness while maintaining quality and delivery standards.
  • Design Integration: This involves participating in and potentially chairing technical reviews ensuring that manufacturing considerations are incorporated into the design process.
  • Technical Training & Mentoring: Provide advanced training to technical teams, capture best practices and bring industry know-how to our programs.
  • Leadership: during reviews, discussions and meetings with the stakeholders and customers, navigating business processes and managing risks.  Potential future path for this role may be Certifying Agent or Technical Talent Pipeline recommendations.
  • Uphold safety and quality, fostering a lean culture adopting FLIGHT DECK.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university (or a high school diploma/GED with a minimum of 4 years Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science, Engineering or related field experience) + minimum of 3 years Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials Science, Engineering or related field

Desired Characteristics

  • NX/Teamcenter, CAD/CAM experience
  • Transparent: shares critical information, speaks with candor, contributes constructively
  • Significant aerospace manufacturing experience with non-conventional machining and inspection
  • Ability to read and interpret part drawings using GD&T in accordance with ASME Y14.5
  • Prior experience in Aerospace manufacturing processes and materials, component manufacturing and assembly
  • Familiarity with Aerospace Quality standards and APQP
