About the opportunity

The Faculty of Medicine and Health’s Research Team is seeking a Senior Manager, Research Support to lead and manage the research support team and oversee the operational requirements of research support within FMH. The role will drive service improvement initiatives, provide strategic planning to support growth, and build and embed best-practice standards across research support services.

The Senior Manager, Research Support will ensure the delivery of high-quality support across the full research lifecycle, including pre and post-award grant services, professional research development, and continuous process improvement.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • provide strategic leadership and people management of research support staff across the faculty, including supervision, training, performance reviews, career development, talent and succession planning
  • lead process and service improvement initiatives and ensure the efficient allocation of research support resources to deliver high-quality support for students and academic staff
  • manage the operational requirements of the unit, including providing executive support to the Research Committee and ensuring effective governance and compliance
  • prepare and communicate updates to senior management and key stakeholders on research programs, performance, and strategic priorities
  • oversee data collection, analysis, and impact reporting to inform faculty decision-making and support achievement of research strategy
  • provide financial management and funding oversight for internal grants and research programs, including reviewing, improving, and implementing project processes and procedures
  • lead the design, implementation, and administration of internal grant schemes and associated funding processes.
  • manage and strengthen key stakeholder relationships, events, and communications to support research collaboration and strategic partnerships
  • facilitate effective communication across stakeholder groups, including close collaboration with Schools, Centres and external partners.

About you

  • demonstrated experience in supervising, training, mentoring, and performance managing staff, including effectively managing and resolving a wide range of complex and sensitive HR issues in a large or diverse workforce
  • extensive experience working in a research-intensive environment, with a strong understanding of the research support lifecycle, including the development and delivery of support services from pre to post-award stages
  • highly developed problem-solving and service improvement skills, supported by exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication abilities, with proven capability in negotiation and conflict resolution and a high level of tact and discretion in managing day-to-day operational and stakeholder matters
