Base Salary Level B, $127,436 p.a (pro-rata) + 17% Superannuation
About the opportunity
The University of Sydney’s School of Physics is welcoming applicants for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in in Experimental Quantum Science In this role, the successful candidate will apply and further develop advanced research expertise to contribute to the University’s leadership in the discipline. Working independently and collaboratively within the Quantum Integration Laboratory and broader Quantum Science Group, the Fellow will design and deliver high-quality research outcomes, provide expert advice, and exercise sound judgement in addressing the challenge of hybrid microwave-optical quantum hardware using rare-earth ions in solids.

Your key responsibilities will be to:
conduct original, high-quality research independently and collaboratively, leading to publications, presentations, and research impact
build and sustain a strong research profile through peer-reviewed outputs and conference or seminar contributions
develop research collaborations and engage in translational research that delivers benefits to industry, policy, practice, or the community
contribute significantly to competitive research grant applications and external funding success
maintain excellence, quality, and compliance in all research activities and outputs
provide mentoring, training, and supervision to early-career researchers, postgraduate students, and undergraduate students where appropriate
contribute to the strategic goals, governance, and positive culture of the School and Faculty through engagement, leadership, and service.
About you

a Doctorate or PhD in a relevant field, with a developing research profile and proven experience conducting original research and scholarly activity in solid-state quantum hardware

communicated effectively with diverse audiences, including delivering presentations and engaging with academic, industry, and professional stakeholders
shown experience in mentoring and supervising others, with a collaborative and inclusive approach
aligned with the University’s values of courage and creativity, openness and engagement, inclusion and diversity, and respect and integrity.
