About the opportunity

Formed in 1856, Sydney Medical School is the oldest medical school in Australia. It accommodates around 1200 medical students undertaking a four-year graduate-entry Doctor of Medicine program, with an innovative, clinical immersed curriculum (MD2020). This academic role will be for a support position for the Australasian Medical Schools Assessment Collaboration (AMSAC), a collaboration of 23 medical schools across Australia and New Zealand.

The successful candidate will be an academic, preferably with experience and expertise in assessment within medical programs, and including the delivery of written assessments in the form of single-best answer (SBA) questions. Familiarity with ExamBank is preferable.

The overall purpose of this position is to provide academic support for the AMSAC collaboration under the supervision of the Academic Lead Assessment.

More specific purposes of the position are to:

  • collate SBA questions from medical schools and prepare AMSAC clinical and pre-clinical carts as directed

  • coordinate submission of new SBA questions for future carts

  • work with member schools to ensure they have appropriate access to The University of Sydney systems for the collaboration.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • be the main point of contact for academic leads from medical schools within the AMSAC collaboration (including managing the AMSAC admin email, coordinating access to exam systems, and ensuring billing is up to date

  • coordinating meetings, including invitations and relevant meeting documents

  • coordinating submission and blueprinting of new questions for the development of the two AMSAC papers (clinical and pre-clinical)

  • participate in question review meetings.

About you

  • a bachelor’s degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent combination of relevant training and experience

  • demonstrated understanding of the subject matter within the discipline

  • the ability to work collaboratively while developing autonomy with experience

  • excellent communication skills

  • highly organised, efficient and reliable

  • have experience working in assessment in medical education

  • have experience in teaching and learning, including demonstrated experience in designing, implementing and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives
