We are currently seeking a Cultural Resources Program Manager / Archaeologist for our San Antonio, TX office.

This position is responsible for the oversight of field research, data collection, inventory, analysis, final report production, and curation in accordance with various agency requirements and guidelines, as well as general standards of scientific quality. Other aspects of this role will include managing budgets, preparing proposals, interacting with clients and regulatory agencies, conducting internal and external business development, as well as managing other technical professionals as delegated by the Cultural Resources Program Manager.

Responsibilities:

∙ Direct technical work

∙ Provide expertise with regulatory compliance at federal, state and local levels

∙ Agency, client, contractor, and subconsultant coordination

∙ Prepare scopes of work and manage budgets, subconsultant invoices, and expenses

∙ Serve as Principal Investigator on archaeological investigations and lead fieldwork as needed

∙ Author large technical reports, research designs, mitigation strategies, and other technical documents

∙ Successfully and independently manage projects, staff, timelines, and task allocation

∙ Provide oversight of artifact analysis, report content, and personnel

∙ Actively participate in professional organizations and development

∙ Ensure project completion within scheduling and budgetary constraints

∙ Mentor and train junior staff

∙ Make eligibility assessments in relation to applicable local, state, and federal guidelines.

Qualifications:

∙ Master of Arts/Science in Anthropology, Archaeology, or related field

∙ Minimum of five (5) years of experience supervising archaeological investigations, such as Phase I surveys, Phase II testing, or Phase III data recoveries, artifact analysis, and report writing on projects in Texas

∙ Candidate must have two years of experience in San Antonio or the greater South-Central Texas region, with preferred experience on historic and Spanish Colonial sites

∙ Working knowledge of Section 106 of the NHPA, Antiquities Code of Texas, and NEPA

∙ Proven ability to direct and mentor Project Archaeologists and Crew Chiefs

∙ No permits in default

∙ Demonstrated positive reputation and relationships with regulatory agencies

∙ Prior primary report authorship for a variety of archaeological project types and sizes, and agencies

∙ Ability to perform duties on multiple simultaneous projects, sometimes with conflicting deadlines

∙ Exceptional organizational and record keeping, critical thinking, problem solving, and time management skills

∙ Must be self-motivated and able to work independently

∙ Ability to successfully delegate tasks

∙ Responsive to internal and external communications during business hours and available outside of normal business hours on as needed basis

∙ Ability to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently

∙ Experience leading and working on testing and data recovery projects

∙ Experience with digital data collection platforms and Global Positioning Systems

∙ Must be able to work in the field under various terrain and weather conditions as needed

∙ Must be able to walk and stand for prolonged time periods; dig with a variety of hand tools, bend, kneel, and stand

∙ Must be able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. such as a bucket filled with rocks or soil; boxes of stone artifacts

∙ Must be flexible to work within the office hours of 8 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday with occasional overtime, as needed

∙ Position may require irregular hours due to client needs; work responsibilities may require out of town/overnight travel to Pape-Dawson offices or project locations

∙ Must have a valid Driver’s License

∙ Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems

∙ Experience conducting archival research

∙ Working knowledge of City of San Antonio’s Unified Development Code

∙ Analytical expertise (e.g., lithic, faunal, or ceramic)
