Mechanical Estimator

Join our Fabrications team and play a vital role in shaping the future of water infrastructure across the UK. As a Mechanical Estimator, you’ll help us secure high‑quality, commercially successful projects by producing accurate, competitive tenders that win work and support our long‑term growth.

You’ll be part of a collaborative and experienced team working on a diverse range of Clean Water, Wastewater and Sludge Treatment projects. With established frameworks across all UK Water PLCs and a strong pipeline into AMP 8, Galliford Try offers stability, progression, and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact.

 

What you will be doing: 

  • Preparing enquiry schedules and working with internal teams to select suitable suppliers and subcontractors.
  • Obtaining and analysing quotations to support commercial decision-making.
  • Collating information to support the review of contractual conditions, insurance, bonds and warranties.
  • Producing clear, accurate analytical rate build-ups and Bills of Quantities.
  • Updating and refining cost data from project feedback to ensure continual improvement.
  • Identifying commercial opportunities and risks, including producing tender risk registers where required.
  • Preparing preliminary cost estimates and commercial tender documentation.
  • Attending tender finalisation meetings, presenting cost data, and completing submissions.

About you:

You’ll bring a blend of technical capability, commercial awareness, and a proactive, collaborative approach. We’re looking for someone with:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong influencing, negotiation and decision‑making skills.
  • Effective time management, with an ability to plan and prioritise.
  • Experience within Clean Water, Wastewater or Sludge Treatment (preferred).
  • Understanding of Conditions of Contract and Clients’ Asset Standards/WIMES specifications.
  • Ability to interpret/produce P&IDs and Process Flow Diagrams.
  • High commercial awareness and technical knowledge.
  • Confidence with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Knowledge of estimating processes and risk management techniques.
  • Relevant experience or transferable skills from a similar environment.
  • A Level 3 NVQ, Certificate Level qualification, or equivalent.
