Our Operations Engineering team is central to our manufacturing excellence, and this is your opportunity to play a key part in that success.
About the Role
We are looking for a Die Setter to join our Hamilton Manufacturing team on a permanent afternoon shift, 3:30pm – 12:00am. You will report to the Die Setter Supervisor and work closely with the Plastics Operations, Tool & Die, and Maintenance teams to ensure our presses, moulds, and die-sets are optimised and well maintained for high-quality, reliable production.
In this hands-on, high-impact role, you will be at the heart of our production set-up and change-over process, contributing to operational uptime, product quality, and cost-efficiency.
Note: The role includes an initial 2-week training period on the day shift, after which you will move to your permanent afternoon shift. There is also the possibility that the role may transition to a permanent day shift in the future.
You will:
Carry out safe, accurate tool changes and machine start-ups in line with production requirements
Ensure products meet or exceed quality specifications and assist with any product quality issues
Apply strong troubleshooting skills to resolve die or machine challenges quickly and effectively
Contribute to Lean and SMED activities to reduce waste and optimise change-over times
Plan ahead, manage time effectively, and support flexibility across shifts where required
Promote and maintain high standards of safety, housekeeping (6S), and teamwork
Actively support continuous improvement and problem-solving initiatives within the Plastics team
About You
You’re mechanically minded, proactive, and thrive in a busy manufacturing environment. You take pride in precision, quality, and safety - and you enjoy working collaboratively to keep production running at its best.
Ideally, you’ll bring:
Trade qualification (Die Setter, Plastics Engineering, mechanical, fitter-welder or similar) or equivalent manufacturing tooling experience.
A Trade Certificate in Plastics Engineering, PAMPITO qualification, or relevant mechanical trade
Proven experience in injection moulding or extrusion, ideally with die setting responsibilities
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
Good planning, communication, and time management skills
Knowledge of Lean and SMED principles
A strong commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
Working at Gallagher
Joining Gallagher means joining a global manufacturing leader with a strong commitment to its people and their development.
We offer:
A supportive, professional environment where you can build a lasting career
Opportunities for growth and cross-functional learning across Plastics, Tooling, and Engineering
Competitive pay, KiwiSaver contributions, and annual bonuses
Free on-site parking, a subsidised café, and great local eateries
A fun, collaborative team culture with regular events and learning opportunities
