Background:

CERIDES, established in 2017, focuses on risk perception, assessment, management, and communication in disaster prevention, occupational safety, societal safety, and space, with emphasis on the South-Eastern Mediterranean. The Centre has employed over 60 researchers, secured over €12.5 million in competitive funding, and since July 2025 hosts the UNESCO Chair in Disaster Risk Reduction and Societal Safety. Founded and directed by Professor Georgios Boustras and Dr Christos Dimopoulos, CERIDES is expanding due to new EU projects and is seeking highly motivated researchers, offering a modern, supportive environment and competitive, merit-based salaries.

Overall Purpose of the Job: 

The employee will be responsible for:

  • Following the Work Packages and Tasks at the project(s) they are assigned
  • Drafting minutes, reports, deliverables at the project(s) they are assigned
  • Engage in discussions (for the project(s) they are assigned) with local, regional and international stakeholders
  • Communicate in a popular or scientific mode the results of the project(s) they are assigned – a Scopus – indexed publication record will be an advantage
  • Maintain a work schedule according to the hours assigned to them at the project(s) they are assigned
  • Answer questions related to the project(s) they are assigned to the project partners and stakeholders if needed

As indicated, a variety of roles is available and different work positions will be filled.  CERIDES focus is on disaster prevention and management, as such degree holders in relevant disciplines will be selected.  A numerical background is preferable.  One role will be focused on Hydrogen Safety and necessary experience will be required.  One or more roles will focus in Civil Protection and necessary experience will be required.  Experience in proposal writing will be an advantage. Fluency in MS Office is needed. Selected persons will be based in our Nicosia Campus and physical presence in the office is required.

Requirements

  • PhD (for Senior Research Fellow position(s)) or MSc (for Research Associate position(s) in Disaster Risk Reduction / Management or Environmental Engineering / Science, Process Safety, Hydrogen Safety, Fire Safety Management / Engineering
  • Previous Research Experience (ideally in EU funded actions)
  • Research Publications: Proven track record of high-quality, high-impact research publications
  • Previous employment record in a similar position
  • Good communicative skills, teamwork competence and collaborative skills, as well as capability to work independently
  • Excellent Project Management skills (proven in previous similar actions)

The successful candidate will work closely with Prof George Boustras and Dr Christos Dimopoulos, who will be directly responsible for the day-to-day management leads and will ensure that all milestones and deliverables are met on time and to target.
