Join our team in Palmerston North as the NZTA IDC Renewals Engineer

Fulton Hogan is proud to have acquired the NZTA Integrated Delivery Contract (IDC) for Manawatū-Whanganui, taking responsibility for the majority of state highway maintenance and renewals across the region. As a Renewals Engineer, you will support the Renewals Manager and be responsible for planning, scheduling, and delivering renewal, rehabs and reseal activities for the contractor. The role involves building strong working relationships across Journey Management, Asset Management, Quality Management, Customer Coordination, and Contract Administration teams. You will also undertake additional tasks as required to support project success.

In addition to the above you will:

  • Work with the Quality Manager to ensure final design specifications are met, assess quality outcomes, and promote continuous improvement across the team
  • Obtain all necessary consents before work starts, keep Environmental Management Plans updated, report any breaches, and ensure compliance with consent conditions
  • Attend stakeholder meetings, communicate site requirements (e.g. detours, access), and provide accurate, timely information for engagement and queries
  • Complete field tasks such as measuring jobs, conducting audits, collecting QA data, preparing claims, pricing, preparing notices, and managing AWM documentation. Obtain quotes and produce clear reports efficiently
  • Liaise with production teams and suppliers to find solutions and recommend improvements, oversee equipment selection, participate in hands-on activities when needed, and ensure all work is completed accurately and on time

We’re looking for someone with:

  • BE, NZCE, Diploma in Engineering, or proven significant industry experience, with solid technical skills in civil engineering or a related field
  • At least five years of relevant experience in civil construction, infrastructure, or temporary traffic management, with a strong project delivery record
  • Experience leading and developing teams, able to mentor staff and promote a positive team culture
  • Good understanding of departmental operations, industry standards, and legislation relevant to traffic management and civil works
  • Current safety-related certification (e.g., STMS, ConstructSafe), demonstrating a commitment to health and safety
  • Class 1 driver’s licence
