The Opportunity

Due to growth, we are looking for a Machine Operator to join the Fulton Hogan State Highway Maintenance Team in Nelson.

This is an exciting opportunity to join a team in a role that is both rewarding and challenging.  Reporting to the Supervisor, you will primarily be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various items of construction equipment and heavy plant along with getting stuck in with general labouring when required.  You will be working on projects for internal and external customers in the Nelson Region predominately on the state highway while complying with all relevant code of practice and quality requirements.

The right candidate will be able to:

  • Understand and embrace our Living Safely approach.
  • Operate heavy vehicles, and other road construction equipment
  • Take personal responsibility for the safety of your workmates, the environment, public and yourself.
  • Ensure all work is carried out in compliance with the relevant job and work instruction. Be available to be rostered on call, and work night shift where required.
  • Have some level of skill to operate technology such as an iPad (training provided).

 What you’ll bring to the table

  • Minimum Class 2 driver’s license and WTR (Class 5 preferred but not essential)
  • Pavement construction and drainage experience
  • Able to work both independently and as a team
  • An unwavering commitment towards living safely with a safety record to match
  • Be a reliable individual with a strong work ethic
