We are looking for a qualified Safety and Structures Engineer to provide expertise in the planning, inspection, and execution of road and infrastructure maintenance activities under our new IDC contract with NZTA, serving the Manawatū and Whanganui regions. Commencing in May 2026, you will join a dedicated team responsible for road and footpath repairs, street cleaning, the management of streetlights and signs, as well as drainage and vegetation maintenance.

This role is pivotal in ensuring the highest standards of minor safety and structural works. This will involve inspections, working with NZTA engineers and consultants, and determining the best designs/improvements related to road safety and asset structural improvements, including compliance. It combines expert analysis and design with proactive safety management, rigorous site inspections, and effective risk mitigation. You’ll provide authoritative technical guidance, foster strong client and stakeholder relationships, and drive continuous improvement through incident investigations and industry-leading documentation. Stay ahead of the curve with evolving regulations and best practices, while championing a culture of safety and excellence across every project.

In addition to the above you will:

  • Conduct regular, hands-on site visits to ensure construction aligns with approved plans, safety protocols, and regulatory standards
  • Resolve any structural or safety issues promptly using expert engineering solutions
  • Develop bespoke safety management plans to ensure every project is protected and compliant from day one
  • Carry out ongoing risk assessments and apply adaptive controls to keep hazards under control throughout the project lifecycle
  • Respond immediately to incidents and accidents, undertaking thorough investigations and implementing effective corrective actions
  • Perform routine audits to maintain superior quality, structural integrity, and strict compliance with occupational health and safety standards
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, foremen, and contractors for seamless integration of safety and design operations
  • Maintain detailed records and provide transparent reporting to keep management and regulators fully informed and confident in project safety
