We are seeking a dedicated Maintenance Engineer to join our team and lead the planning, scheduling, and delivery of road and infrastructure maintenance under our new IDC contract with NZTA for the Manawatū and Whanganui regions. Commencing in May 2026, you will play a vital role in managing road and footpath repairs, street cleaning, maintenance of streetlights and signage, drainage and vegetation management, and emergency response operations. Your contribution will support improved service quality and enhanced resilience for our growing communities.

The Maintenance Engineer plays a key role in planning, scheduling, and delivering maintenance activities. Responsibilities include working closely with the Quality Manager to meet design specifications, managing consents and Environmental Management Plans, engaging with partners and stakeholders, and responding promptly to operational queries. You’ll be accountable for a range of field activities, such as job measurement, site audits, quality assurance, claims, pricing, and contract administration, as well as liaising with production teams and suppliers.

In addition to the above you will:   

  • Manage all required consents and Environmental Management Plans (EMP), reporting breaches and providing evidence to meet consent conditions

  • Lead and complete field activities, including job measurement, site and subcontractor audits, QA data collection, timely claim submissions, pricing, and contract documentation

  • Organise and coordinate operational resources, such as subcontractors, materials, plant, and personnel, to meet project schedules and maintain high standards

  • Foster strong relationships with NZTA and stakeholders through regular engagement, effective communication, and participation in meetings

  • Oversee programme KPIs, contractual procedures for scope changes, and provide leadership to staff, contributing to continuous improvement

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Relevant engineering qualification (BE, NZCE, Diploma, or equivalent) and at least five years’ operational experience in the sector, including quality oversight, contracting, and resource planning

  • Strong leadership skills with proven ability to manage and develop operational teams, promote professional growth, and drive performance excellence

  • Comprehensive understanding of department operations, quality assurance, stakeholder engagement, and contract management, ideally within road and infrastructure maintenance

  • Current safety certification and Class 1 driver’s licence, demonstrating commitment to health, safety, and role flexibility for site visits and fieldwork
