The opportunity
As HSQ Manager for Palmerston North and the wider Manawatu-Whanganui Region, you will implement Fulton Hogan's HSQ plans and policies, leading a proactive safety and quality culture. You will provide leadership, advice, and support to ensure work is delivered safely, on time, within budget, and to the highest standard. You’ll oversee safety and compliance, compulsory training, and support for both health & safety and quality assurance, while also supporting our environmental manager in their role with an eye on our sustainability goals.
In addition to the above you will:
Promote, lead, and support a positive safety and quality culture, driving the business to achieve ‘Living Safely 2.0’.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, quality, environmental, and sustainability policies throughout the region.
Develop, maintain, and implement the Living Safely manual in line with H&S legislation, regulations, standards, and codes of practice.
Oversee implementation and compliance with company systems and processes.
Provide advice, guidance, support, and HSQ training to management and staff at all levels.
Plan and conduct audits to maintain regulatory quality standards and prepare detailed action reports.
Support management to meet quality policies and manage procedures aligned with our environmental policy.
Identify and implement cost-saving opportunities, e.g. reducing injury costs through proactive measures.
Foster strong relationships, influence stakeholders, and communicate complex information clearly.
To be successful in this role, you will:
A minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in health & safety within roading, civil contracting or construction industries.
Ideally 2 years’ experience at manager level, with a proven track record in team leadership and development onsite and remotely.
Tertiary qualification in health and safety or relevant extensive industry experience (formal qualification preferred).
Sound understanding of civil contracting businesses and best practice quality systems and processes.
Ability to build and maintain effective relationships, influence stakeholders, and drive engagement.
Proficient computer skills (MS Office Suite, especially Excel), skilled in reporting and data analysis.
Solution-oriented, hands-on approach, and strong financial/business acumen.
Current NZ Class 1 Full Drivers Licence.
