The Role

 

The Senior Computational Chemist will expand our capabilities in simulation, informatics, and AI/machine learning for CMP and p-CMP processes. The specialist will play a vital role in developing and applying digital methods, data-driven models, and advanced analytics to address challenging problems faced by our customers in advanced nodes. As part of a multidisciplinary team, this role will help transform experimental and simulation data into actionable insights, enabling more efficient R&D, supporting technical innovation, and facilitating new product opportunities.

Job Description

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  • Develop, train, and validate AI/machine learning models for new slurry formulations and process prediction, focusing on physics-aware and hybrid models that incorporate physical laws and simulation outputs.
  • Leverage computational methods (such as DFT, CFD, and DEM) in collaboration with simulation experts to integrate simulation data into AI/ML workflows and support process understanding.
  • Work closely with computational chemists, process engineers, and formulation specialists, applying AI/ML, data analytics, and informatics to advance simulation and experimental efforts.
  • Apply techniques from physics-informed machine learning (e.g., PINNs) and combine experimental, simulation, and empirical data for process optimization.
  • Write and maintain Python scripts for data analysis, modeling, automation, and database integration.
  • Use database management skills to handle large R&D datasets and connect models to data sources.
  • Serve as a technical resource during customer-facing projects, providing expert support for AI and data-driven solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts and findings effectively to internal stakeholders, external customers, and non-technical audiences, including data visualization and reporting.
  • Demonstrate interdisciplinary collaboration, bridging communication between digital and experimental teams.
  • Adapt to changing technical priorities and industry needs.
  • Manage multiple R&D projects supporting customer needs, ensuring timely and high-quality completion.
  • Support formulation and optimization of CMP slurries/PCMP cleaner using experimental and digital methods.
  • Set goals, timelines, and milestones for individual projects and maintain strong organization.
  • Provide guidance to laboratory technicians and junior team members as needed.
  • Domestic and international travel up to 10 percent may be required.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • PhD in Chemistry, Computer Science, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Computational Chemistry or a related field with 2 plus years of related experience.
  • Experience with computational modeling techniques such as DFT, CFD, and DEM in research or industry.
  • Proficient in Python and machine learning/data analysis libraries (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, Pandas, NumPy).
  • Experience in database management, handling large data sets, and working with SQL or similar technologies.
  • Skilled in designing physics-aware and hybrid AI models, such as physics-informed neural networks (PINNs) or models integrating physical laws and simulation data.
  • Proficient with MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Power BI, Power Query, and VBA.
  • Experience with statistical and experimental design tools (JMP preferred).
  • Strong communication, organization, and collaborative skills, with adaptability to changing technical priorities.
  • Experience in the semiconductor industry and laboratory informatics systems preferred.
  • Experience in the AI agent, chemistry AI modelling, digital twin preferred
  • This is a safety-sensitive position that requires candidates to successfully pass a post-offer drug screening prior to employment. One of the essential job functions is the ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
