The Role

 

The Production Engineering Manager will manage a team of Production Engineers to support the monitoring, troubleshooting and report performance of high-volume manufacturing processes in a safe, environmentally sound and economic manner. The Production Engineering Manager is a working Production Engineer who will also oversee an assigned process for quality and performance, identify and implement process improvements, and drive quality/safety programs.

Job Description

Key responsibilities for this role include:

  •  Ensure all production engineering is carried out per written procedures with safety and quality at the forefront.
  • Manage staffing levels, as needed, make schedule changes with personnel when needed to allow timely execution of engineering/production plans.
  • Coordinate with the Capital and Engineering Manager on any issues related to safety, quality, and/or HR policies.
  • Track employee performance and provide positive and negative feedback, including disciplinary action if needed. Advise on personnel issues related to cross training.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior engineers to assist in technical and professional development.
  • Keep management informed of work status and fill out any related reports in a timely manner.
  • Ensure FMEA’s are updated as needed and reviewed per Plant policy.
  • Ensure Control Plans are updated as needed and reviewed per Plant policy.
  • Monitor daily production for high volume manufacturing processes.
  • Document procedures for process of record for key processes/products. Update SQL work instructions; verify batch records and SQL documentation.
  • Support the scale-up commissioning and qualification of new and replacement systems.
  • Support and participate in environmental, safety and health and quality department programs and requirements
  • Conduct & participate in hazard assessments including Process Hazard Analyses, JSAs, High Hazard Work, and Risk Assessments.
  • Analyze statistical process control performance, OOC's and trend alerts. Requires use of Excel, JMP or other statistical software. Conduct and document plant quality trend review investigations.
  • Investigate Nonconforming Materials, report findings to internal plant stakeholders and process paperwork.
  • Generate Engineering Change Notices.
  • Prepare Management of Change (MOC) records as required.
  • Provide problem solving expertise for a wide range of technical problems.
  • Responsible for planning and execution of plant improvement projects as assigned. Serve as a resource for the production engineering team to assist in project progress while maintaining close communication with partners & stakeholders across the business
  • Participate in customer meetings, audits and answer customer complaints using an 8D or customer formats as required.
  • Conduct trend reviews for process operations and quality analysis.
  • Review lab data to verify no trend rule violations prior to batch release.
  • Able to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

 

REQUIREMENTS

  • BS in Chemical Engineering or related field.
  • 1-2 years Supervisor or leadership experience preferred but not required.
  • Minimum 6-8 years’ experience in high volume chemical manufacturing; other technical disciplines with experience in automation, chemical manufacturing, or semiconductor manufacturing will be strongly considered.
  • Demonstrated innovative thinking and scientific/engineering approach to solving product development problems in school or work environment.
  • Ability to manage process safety management (PSM) processes, management of change, pre-startup safety reviews and process hazard analyses.
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships across business functions and demonstrated ability to influence decisions across all levels within the organization.
  • Strong skillset in understanding and creating P&IDs and isometrics, interpreting design documentation of field machinery and function testing/validation of field equipment.
  • Experience with industrial process control systems preferred but not required.
  • Excellent communication skills. Must coordinate team communications with and between a wide variety of internal and external technical disciplines.
  • Strong computer skills for Microsoft Office Word, PowerPoint, Excel, JMP or other statistical software packages.
  • Working knowledge of Statistical Process Control (SPC) techniques and statistical analysis of data. Familiarity with JMP statistical software is preferred but not required.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills.
  • Demonstrated abilities to work independently and as a team.
  • Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Adhere to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to work well with others at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to cover on call schedule as production needs demand.
  • Ability to fill in as Capital & Engineering Manager as needed.

PAY RANGE: The pay range for this role is estimated $110,000/yr. - $120/000/yr. with actual wage based on candidate’s qualifications and experience.
