Job DetailsLevel: EntryJob Location: Facility - Fresno, CA 93728Position Type: Full TimeSalary Range: $17.78 - $23.35 HourlyGeneral purpose This position is responsible for providing a visible and positive presence to Zoo guests to promote safety, adherence to zoo rules, and a fun, engaging experience.  This position supports the Fresno’s Chaffee Zoo Corporation’s mission and vision by building community trust and providing a safe and welcoming environment for all of our guests and employees.     Full-Time employees receive our comprehensive compensation package which includes 100% employer paid Medical/Dental/Vision, Employee Assistance Program, 401k, 10 Paid Holidays, Paid Sick and Paid Vacation time on an accrued basis. The pay range for this position is $17.78 - $23.35 per hour. Offers will be based on the successful candidate's experience.     Essential accountabilities Walks throughout the assigned area(s) to maintain a visible presence in the Zoo for guests.  Greets guests in a friendly, professional manner and demonstrates an approachable, service-focused demeanor. Engages proactively with guests to provide directions, resolve concerns, offer assistance, and ensure a positive and safe experience regarding other aspects of Zoo operations. Monitors guest activity and addresses violations of Zoo rules to the Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) management in a professional manner.  Provide emergency medical assistance to guests and staff with First Aid supplies, including CPR, AED, and O2 support, until advance medical personnel arrive.  Works calmly and authoritatively with the public. Provides professional customer service in adverse environments such as crowds or with difficult members of the public. Alert EHS management of incidents requiring additional attention or treatment. Assists in reuniting lost and found children with parents or guardians. Serves as a primary point of contact in emergency scenarios (Incident Commander), assisting with coordination and communication with first responders and Zoo leadership. Provides crowd control as needed during peak attendance periods and special events. Opens secures and activates all building alarms in accordance with Zoo procedures. Provides escorts and equipment for animal transport, and some zoo deliveries. Maintains a high level of situational awareness while patrolling the zoo. Participates in emergency drills and debriefs and may be designated to be the primary responder during certain scenarios, under the direction of the EHS leadership team.   Must stay current with all safety and security certification and renew every two (2) years.   Safely operate a vehicle for business purposes including but not limited to going to and from the zoo’s facilities and offsite. Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support team and organizational goals. QualificationsEDUCATION AND JOB QUALIFICATIONS Minimum one (1) year of paid work experience in security, emergency response, or customer service environment required. Basic Life Support, Automated External Defibrillator (AED), Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), First Aid, and Oxygen (O2) certification preferred. Registered as a proprietary private security officer with the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services. (BSIS) preferred. Minimum of one (1) year of work experience using Microsoft Office required. Strong verbal English communications skills required both oral and written required.  A valid California driver's license, valid vehicle insurance, enrolled in the CA Employer Pull Notice program and successful completion of the FCZ Drivers Training Program required.   PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS These are the physical and mental requirements of the position as it is typically performed.  Inability to meet one or more of these physical or mental requirements will not automatically disqualify a candidate or employee from the position.  Upon request for reasonable accommodation, the Zoo may be able to adjust or excuse one or more of these requirements, depending on the requirement, the essential functions to which it relates, and the proposed accommodation.   Stand and walk for extended periods of time, including continuous patrols across varied terrain and in all weather conditions. Bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and climb stairs or ladders as necessary during routine and emergency operations. Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. as part of equipment handling or emergency response. Maintain visual and auditory awareness sufficient to identify potential safety or security concerns, including in low-light environments. Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, which may require running short distances or performing physical interventions or assistance.  Possess adequate hearing and speech to communicate clearly via radio, phone, or in-person during emergency or high-noise conditions.   Operate security equipment and communication devices requiring manual dexterity.   WORK ENVIRONMENT This position functions primarily outdoors, with possible exposure to heat, cold, inclement weather, Zoo environments and external events The employee may be exposed to environmental substances such as dust/dirt from Zoo grounds. The position works in close proximity to Zoo animals. Regular local travel and occasional out-of-town travel may be required. Ability to perform duties during irregular or extended shifts, including overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed to support 24-hour security operations.
