About this role

In cooperation with the Chair of Laser Technology LLT, the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, Europe's leading center for contract research and development in the field of laser technology, offers the opportunity to write a thesis.

In the Thin Film Processing group, we develop processes for the laser functionalization of thin films. In doing so, we optimize material properties such as conductivity, adhesion, and tightness using processes such as sintering, crystallization, and melting. One focus of our research is printed electronics, where we manufacture the layers ourselves using digital printing processes. We are currently working on the additive manufacturing of printed sensors (contactless, digital, and targeted application of thin films to substrates).

Be part of change

  • Your responsibilities will include researching and recording the state of the art in inkjet and aerosol jet printing processes
  • You will independently plan and carry out experiments on the application of measuring grid structures (printed sensors)
  • Your activities will include laser functionalization with class 4 lasers
  • You will also be responsible for performing various methods for analyzing the printed thin-film structures
  • Finally, you will document and discuss the results

What you contribute

  • You are studying electrical engineering, materials science, materials engineering, or a comparable degree program and are interested in laser technology and printed electronics in application-oriented research
  • You are characterized by an independent, organized, and structured approach to work
  • Initial experience in programming in Python and/or CNC languages and/or laser technology is advantageous but not essential

What we offer

👥 Team spirit: Creative, interdisciplinary environment with a motivated team, flat hierarchies, and an informal culture.
🖥 Workplace: Excellent range of machines and equipment, as well as first-class office facilities.
💪 Involvement: Practice-oriented thesis in an innovative applied research environment.
🧘 Work-life balance: Benefit from flexible working hours based on trust.
➕ Advantages: Opportunity to benefit from exciting corporate benefits.
🚐 Getting there: Good transport connections, parking spaces directly in front of the institute, an e-charging station, and a parking garage.

The position is limited in duration until completion of the thesis. We value and promote the diversity of our employees' skills and therefore welcome all applications – regardless of age, gender, nationality, ethnic and social origin, religion, ideology, disability, sexual orientation and identity. Severely disabled persons are given preference in the event of equal suitability. Our tasks are diverse and adaptable – for applicants with disabilities, we work together to find solutions that best promote their abilities.
